Families outraged over FAA 9/11 warnings

Expressing outrage Thursday, family members of 9/11 victims called on the federal government to probe why it didn't act on intelligence warning of terrorist hijackings in the months before the World Trade Center was destroyed.

"The fact of the matter is these warnings were out there and nobody did anything about it," said Bill Doyle of Staten Island, who lost his son Joseph Doyle at the trade center. "My biggest concern is how high up did this get into the administration.

"There were people who testified at the 9/11 hearings that there were no warnings, but now we know there were. We need another investigation into the failures of 9/11. Obviously, someone at the FAA should be held accountable." Doyle said he received 253 e-mails yesterday from victim's families expressing anger over the declassified report.

Elaine Moccia, who lost her husband, Frank V. Moccia Sr., said releasing the information reopened old wounds.

"I am mad and upset that they keep bringing it up," Moccia said. "If they knew about it, why couldn't they have prevented it?"

(CBS) Fishing rod in hand, Attorney General John Ashcroft left on a weekend trip to Missouri Thursday afternoon aboard a chartered government jet, reports CBS News Correspondent Jim Stewart.

In response to inquiries from CBS News over why Ashcroft was traveling exclusively by leased jet aircraft instead of commercial airlines, the Justice Department cited what it called a "threat assessment" by the FBI, and said Ashcroft has been advised to travel only by private jet for the remainder of his term.

"There was a threat assessment and there are guidelines. He is acting under the guidelines," an FBI spokesman said. Neither the FBI nor the Justice Department, however, would identify what the threat was, when it was detected or who made it.

A senior official at the CIA said he was unaware of specific threats against any Cabinet member, and Ashcroft himself, in a speech in California, seemed unsure of the nature of the threat.

We meet often and have never blamed President Clinton for the disaster that was 9/11. I'm suprised to read the that some people accuse Bill Clinton for George Bush and Condi Rice's ignorance, arrogance and incompetence. I urge you to read the 9/11 Commission Report, it's long and wordy but worth the read.

I see someone supplied the link to the 9/11 board, and I highly recommend that you read the threads there. There is still a great deal of information that as I am sure you know, the 9/11 Commission didn't even take into consideration. Many at DU are fully aware of that, and post to educate others.

I also believe that you should harness your anger and along with the other 9/11 families speak out loud and clear, and make sure that this story doesn't fade into the sunset. I think you and the "Jersey Girls" (whom I admire immensely from the first time I heard Mindy Kleinberg address the Commission with such bravery) can do that.

There is evidence suggesting explosives may have been set in the towers, that they didn't fall just because of the planes. The New York FAA records were deliberately destroyed--this was witnessed. And there is much other information that just doesn't fit the Administration's neat story that this was a Pearl Harbor and they had no warning.

Condoleeza Rice perjured herself in her testimony about 9/11. The administration plan is clearly that she get a free pass on her culpability in the 9/11 attacks and her perjured testimony about them. So far, this has worked.

I believe that the Republican Congress members who have colluded with the Administration to suppress the truth about the 9/11 attacks did so in part because they knew that the public outrage over the full story would jeopardize their own hold on their elective offices. So far, this has worked.

At a minimum it was LIHOP. I am inclined to believe it was MIHOP. It was engineered to boost the administration's political power and to engender enough fear in the public to permit the unconstitutional shift of power to the Executive Branch that subsequently happened. This is the scandal that they fear the most.

I'm listening to Randi Rhodes right now and my teeth are clenching as I listen to what she is reading and playing in terms of the tapes and declassified report....

I never doubted the possibility of LIHOP, but I just have never heard any evidence that indicated its possibility...well, no longer the case. As I listen to the details of warnings and inconsistencies, I can only say that I hope America is listening and paying attention.

I'm also willing to bet that the Gannon story, Charles and Camilla, Michael Jackson and probably something else like Iran, or even an attack will happen soon (Terra Alert, Terra Alert) to distract people from talking about this and connecting the dots....
