Hey, SIXTY MINUTES producers, we know you are reading this....

You want the Story of the Century? Do you have the guts? Will you give one final gift to America before you fold your tent?

Mike Wallace, will your bosses let you do it?
Andy Rooney, just a curmudgeon or also a journalist?
Dan Rather, still afraid of being necklaced?

Bob Simon, you would be perfect for this one.

If you dare...if you care, then you will do a story on Voter Fraud soon. This should be your NUMBER ONE PRIORITY.

There are several patriots who MUST be interviewed for this story. Our very democracy is at stake. Let them tell the American people how Election 2000 was stolen and how 2004 will be, too, unless we do something NOW.

Dan Rather knows one of them. You appeared on HIS show in London. Its time to return the favor and interview Greg Palast. He will tell you how 55,000 blacks were disenfranchised from voting in Florida. And much more. Of course, you already know that. But at least 50% of Americans don't know what really happened down there..

The others are right here at DU - Bev Harris and some of the most dedicated, fearless fighters for democracy you will find anywhere. They have already proven that the Republican touch-screen voting computers are vulnerable to massive fraud. We have strong suspicions about the theft of the Senate in 2002, especially in Georgia. We are sure that the Presidential election will be stolen, once again, by Bush in 2004.

Sixty Minutes, will you do it? Of all the scams and corruption that you have covered, they are trivial compared to the importance of this story.

Just do it.

1. Don't hold your breath. We'd hate to find you lying prone and blue.

2. Nah, they're a bunch of chickens...
There have been so many good stories they've let slide, what's one more?

It is sad that they won't. But the media just don't pay attention to the little folk like us. It'd ruin their reputations, ya know?

The history books, if they ever get written, would be full of the way our free press let down the people, and democracy, and freedom from tyrants. Oh well. At least you tried.

3. Thanks, TIA
It's worth a try, at least, and I wish they'd take you up on it - to at least expose our democracy's vulnerbility when using electronic voting.

All it takes is one more bad election and the dominos will fall for us. More hurtful legislation will get passed; civil rights will be harder to defend; we will lose whatever global credibility that is currently left; and we will see a depression like no other.

Just one more bad election.

It isn't melodramatic to ask 60 Minutes or any journalist: isn't the risk today worth saving tomorrow?

4. Why not start with selection 2000?
Isn't that where it started and not with cigaretts handed out to Dem voters?

5. Gawd, I wish they WOULD hear you, TIA....
I feel the same way....when in the hell are we going to get a really BIG break with this story, one that can't be drummed-out by the latest terrorist alert, or some racey scandal that can't wait.

When is some LOUD, HIGH-PROFILE, PIT-BULL PATRIOT going to finally take these lousy voting machine companies to the mat? Bev, DemActivist, Eloriel, Mr. Spilane, YOU, .... all the people carrying on this battle for our Democracy so bravely and and selflessly, have been doing a remarkable job of trying to stop the corporate bullshit at every turn. Many of the rest of us are calling, writing, and visiting our reps (on all levels of gov't). When is the MEDIA going to tell the true story?

:loveya:

Thanks for this post. I know zzzactly how you're feeling! I'm feeling it too.

Everybody keeps talking about "this candidate" and "that candidate" and who's going to WIN???!!! I just want to SCREAM, sometimes..."it doesn't matter if the WHOLE COUNTRY voted UNANIMOUSLY for someone...it won't MATTER!!!!" I'm worried it's going to take a few more 2002's to wake some folks up. (Very depressing thought, ey? Sorry.)

:argh:

9. Rather sold out years ago....
....in Dallas. Ended up with a nice career though, didn't he?

These guys are all bought. Their corporate bosses will only let them go so far.

So, Mr. Rather, could you possibly make up for a tiny fraction of what you haven't covered over the years by one night, just one night, telling the TRUTH for a change, for democracy?

You might get as much as :30 seconds, and when they pull the plug and go to a commercial awkwardly, citizens may finally realize the media is just a propaganda machine that lies to them.

Does the money make up for your conscience, Mr. Rather? Will it make up for the world our children inherit? You will be responsible, in collusion with big business, for the downfall of our great coutry. Eventually, history will not read your books, but rather, the truth. You won't fare very well.
