1. Work until I drop. Fortunately, I love my work.
And I have plans to work less after I hit 65. Whatever, the world will probalby end first, in which case, I will have worked until I drop.

2. 20+ years of bedside nursing have wrecked my body
and the jobs I'd counted on for when this happened are now being offshored.

I am terrified. Beyond living as long as my savings hold out, I have no plan.

3. Already retired.
Husband 56 with a heart condition so we decided that from now on we will try to owe nothing. We saved a lot by having the kids college paid for by their grandfather after his death so we were very lucky with that, otherwise we would be still at it. We will have a place on the farm with a big garden and all the usual stuff so if we can keep healthy we should be OK at least until the kids can support us (sure, they are both going to be musicians).

5. Well I was planning on retiring on 3/30...until I got hurt at work
Edited on Sat Feb-12-05 01:03 AM by Historic NY
I'm now out on workmans compensation with a broken tibia & fibula. I would have got 1/2 of my pay on regular retirement, but now with the injury I will get 3/4's. Thats not too bad, its tax free. I did have another government job lined up, but now I don't know if they will want me. I maybe able to get SS disability too and that make my life even better. Right now I am in limbo for at least a year until the injury heals, therapy is completed..my job definitly will not take me back thats why they worked out the 3/4's and I'd be nuts to go back. I'm presently single and have a paid off house, small equity loan and a better than average saving account (I like to save).

I will be 49 in March. The SS disabilty would be 1800 a month.

6. I've got a good 80 or 90 yrs in me.
There's no way I'll be able to save enough to live 15-25 yrs. I'm gonna work 'till I drop.

8. Retired early
My wife and I were good little ants while my friends were grasshoppers.

Just teachers who lived within our means.

9. With this man in power, I am uncertain
I am not betting my 401k is solvent, or if the company pension goes bye-bye but I plan a second career unlike the current one until I retire.

10. Will be taking early retirement in 4 years
Have savings mostly not in stocks, so didn't get hit too hard. Comfortable salary for the last 15 years, while living in a paid off house with a cheap grad student lifestyle. No kids. Husband could collect Social Security now, but he'll wait until I retire. Planning on being a fulltime Raging Granny.

11. Want to see something scary?
Actually- it's a mixed bag-

Check out the lifespan calculator. And then look at your portfolio.

See how long you can afford to live.

13. Watching the grandkids now
but hubby (53) still working. With no permenant status for him and no health insurance for the past 5 yrs, I think he'll be working till he drops. I will be watching grandkids till I drop 'cause daycare is just too expensive for my daughters. No money coming from mother-in-law and Dad gave all his to STEP daughter who isn't paying it back. But if * has his way, we'll ALL be livng in the trenches by '08 except for that 1% who'll be living high on the hog.
