An ironic "find" during Black History month..Delaware history & pics
Edited on Sat Feb-12-05 05:27 AM by SoCalDem
I was googling delaware public records files looking for stuff on our pal Guckert, and ran across this page..

People doing geneology on their families probably know about this, but I thought I would share with those who did not know this existed..

http://www.state.de.us/sos/dpa/exhibits/document/barkers_ledger/index.shtml#TopOfPage

".....
JOSEPH BARKER'S NEGRO LEDGER BOOK, 1801-1811
Joseph Barker was a general merchant whose store and home was located at Barkers Landing on the St. Jones River in Murkerkill Hundred. Titled by Barker as his “Negro Ledger A”, the volume contains entries for purchases made by his African-American customers. Each entry notes the name of customer, date of purchase, items purchased, cost for each item, date and amount paid, and how paid. Often bills were paid with grain, other items, or labor...." ...

and a ton of old historic photos from Delaware.. sample below

1. Fascinating
This is a great find.

And in regards to the Guckert scandal, other DUers and I have begun to get some suspicion of BigNewsNetwork.com. They are posting slanted articles, some of which are questionable. I have a nagging suspicion that this could be another Talon News.

North Korean antics catch Bush administration off guard

European economy lags rest of world

And BTW, why no moderator or admin status anymore?

Following Dubai Media City, we get a flash applet driven site. I can't seem to get anywhere on it.

A link to the TBS Archives gives an article:

Dubai Media City Prepares for Next Phase

The view from Dubai Media City is tremendous. Besides the massive and shiny new Dubai Media City and next-door Dubai Internet City facilities themselves, across the man-made lake lies the six-year-old American University of Dubai, and beyond that, the Hard Rock Café. On the other side is the gorgeous Mirage hotel built in traditional Arab style. It's hard to believe that only a few years ago, all this was desert.

This all happens to be in the United Arab Emirates, not Bahrain.

Here is some more from the TBS story:
When TBS reported on Dubai Media City a year ago, the phase-one buildings were still under construction. In January 2001 Dubai's Crown Prince and the visionary behind the Media City project, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, officially launched DMC with not only guarantees of freedom of expression, but also hopes that DMC would be "the arena for free-thinking talent.

This seems a little :tinfoilhat: to me. Maybe I'm grasping at straws.

5. What about other contact/background information?
How old are they? What do they have for news credentials?

Great find, and thanks. More to come.
