CNN Chief News Executive Eason Jordan resigned! Should "we" care?

I guess this could be viewed as "Conservative Blogger Payback," for Jordan saying what many of us here knew...that Journalists were targeted in Iraq (or, that's what many of us feel from reading non Mainstream American news.) But, I just can't get upset over this, since I've not seen Eason Jordan's CNN as reporting anything to us here of value since he's been their "chief news executive." Ho...Hum... I might be missing something about Jordon but telling the truth in Davos, and something else is afoot...(maybe a bigger crackdown on getting the truth out with whomever replaces him), but can it really get worse at CNN?

CNN news chief Jordan resigns over Iraq comments

NEW YORK -- CNN chief news executive Eason Jordan resigned late Friday after controversial remarks that initially claimed U.S. troops targeted journalists in Iraq.

In a memo to CNN employees, Jordan said he made his decision "to prevent CNN from being unfairly tarnished by the controversy over conflicting accounts of my recent remarks regarding the alarming number of journalists killed in Iraq."

Jordan, a 23-year veteran of CNN who oversaw much of the channel's breaking-news coverage since the late 1980s, has been an advocate for journalists' safety, particularly during the Iraq war. But it was his comments during a session last month during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, that led him into trouble. The story was initially reported on a Florida businessman's blog and picked up by blogs before it exploded onto the mainstream media this week.

But, bring the facts with you when doing it. That is the way I see what Franks was doing, if Jordan was going too throw that out there back it up. Instead Jordan retracted, and now quit. I believe there where journalist targeted, but now after the way it has been handled it will take a long time, if ever for this to come out.

5. As Much as I Hate CNN,...

...I believe that we have to say yes we do care!

This is another example of the "Liberal" media caving to the demands of the far right. First it was Rather, then a cartoon bunny and Spongebob, now CNN.

Yes, CNN is doing it's very best to out-fox faux. Yes, CBS' election night coverage was such a pathetic example of bush ass-kissing that I had to keep reminding myself that it WASN'T faux (Ed Bradley's almost gleeful pronouncements that it was time for Kerry to concede as early as the 10:00 PM EST segment was as disgraceful as anything I've ever seen on network news since Good Morning America's Lisa McCree era or recent Today Show antics). I find it VERY hard to care about the misfortunes of a CNN exec.

BUT (You knew that was coming, didn't You?), When the far right gets it's way, America loses. NBC now has Rush Limbaugh's favorite anchor. CBS, reportedly, is looking at Katie Couric as Dan Rather's replacement. Maine PBS is getting a ton of very annoyed e-mails from me about their stance on a "Postcards From Buster" episode that they may not air due to the opposition from the fundamentalist right.

This is the most direct assault on the first Amendment in my lifetime, if not ever. IMHO, it doesn't matter that we don't like CNN. It matters that the bully (the evangelical right) is getting what it wants and, as all bullies do, continues to demand more.

I wouldn't urinate on the face of a CNN executive if his/her eyebrows were on fire. Unfortunately, in this battle we can't always choose our allies. We have got to resist the efforts of the far right to punish those who tell the truth, even if it's a washed-up has-been CNN pencil-pusher.

12. I'm Glad Jordan's Gone, I'm Not Looking Forward To What's Next

I was a 25+ year 24/7 CNN viewer when it was Bernie Shaw, Leon Harris and a lot of straight-up news reporting...not the kitch and personality it is today. That's the "Eason Jordan legacy".

This man is very much responsible for turning that network into a right wing stealth operation and put his corporate master's interests ahead of any journalistic integrity or real balance. He's the man who encourage that network to be a cheerleader in this immoral invasion and worked hand-in-glove with the DOD with the embedding program that turns a reporter into a Pentagon mouthpiece.

The fact Jordan's being sacked because he spoke out should be pointed out as yet another example of right wing media manipulation and how difficult it is in the age of corporate media for the truth to rise above the greed and profiteering.

His successor will be very telling. The network's ratings are in a tailspin (another big reason he was pushed) and they sink further the more they attempt to be Faux Lite. I suspect Time/Warner has a stealthier corporate with no pre-Turner CNN ties to come in and really make this network into a coporate mouthpiece.

I believe that we have to start raising hell, long and loud, at every example of a network's apparent caving to the far right.

I at least don't want the fundies and evangelical storm troopers of the rove machine to be the only ones yelling.

As always, my money goes away from the sponsors of far right indoctrination "info-tainment" in the hope that they eventually start to feel an economic pinch.

8. Wasn't He the One in Another Flap a Few Years Ago?

Where CNN was accused of cozying up to Saddam and others, not spilling certain beans, for the sake of "access," that if CNN and others actually REPORTED damning stuff they would be CUT OFF?

ACCESS (fear of losing it) is one of the keys to media whoredom. Also,

* Herd mentality.

* Laziness.

* It's a trade/craft/art, not a profession.

* It was taken ove by fancy-pants who want to be celebs like the celebs they cover.

* It doesn't require schooling beyond a few hours on libel.

and pick his brain over how the news business works.
