for any reason. The Democrats can do NOTHING to stop it.

Frightening , isn't it? Especially when we have a psychotic , arrogant, xenophobic, apocalyptic, mad man in the oval office.

4. How could they stop it?
Republicans control congress. The only hope, if it were come down to some kind of vote in Congress, would be a filibuster in the senate. I don't know how Bushco would get the public to follow along as they did on Iraq - esp when the favorability of the Iraq invasion has dropped so much - that they could even bring a vote before congress without it killing many republican congressmen (politically speaking.) The repubs do not want this. We have to watch very closely - and talk very loudly (to local papers, in the workplace, etc.) the unfolding stories that will point the way in which the administration will try to manipulate the situation to try to change the political landscape so that they can take it to congress. By getting more people savvy to watching the unfolding story - there will be more skepticism from the beginning - and the manipulation attempts might not only be thwarted... but the public disgust at the unmasked manipulation attempts might just turn more and more voters OFF (esp when also linked to the attempts to kill social security) from not just bushco, but from the GOP.

5. I'm hearing the dumbeat of an Iran invasion.
Edited on Sat Feb-12-05 10:19 AM by in_cog_ni_to
The sounds are so familiar to the march to war with Iraq. This is when WE THE PEOPLE take charge. These people have to be stopped. Just like Hitler had to be stopped. EXCEPT, who will help US? Will any other country help the people of this country? Canada? The EU? I don't think so. It's up to us and I don't know that the military would support us or their idiot-in-chief? What if someone like Wes Clark or Hackworth or all the other retired Generals or military people who are against the war stood up and led a revolt? Would the military listen to them? Who would they follow? :scared:

6. I identify with your sense of urgency.
I suppose that sense of urgency is what keeps me focused upon actions which reveal the true nature of the neoCONspirators: their pattern of deception, their misuse of taxpayer funds for propaganda and funding crony corporations, their plan to destroy programs which open opportunity to the less fortunate, their willingness to lead our people into another world war.

It will take more than Democrat representatives to stop the neoCONs. It will take a galvanized American public.

8. They Can't Stop The Invasion But
The president cannot declare war on anyone without Congressional approval. That's where the shrub will have a problem.

First of all, there are plenty of moderate Republicans in both houses who won't vote to give the President authority to invade Iran unless they attack us first. The only way around that is to arrange another 9/11 and blame it on Tehran. That's possible, of course, but would mean putting the Department of Homeland Security and Pentagon under a microscope, which neither place wants.

Second of all, no Democrat in either house (with the possible exception of Lieberman) who has any immediate plans for reelection or running for another office will vote to give war authority against Iran.

In my mind, then, since we already a small, covert, mini-incursion campaign on Iranian soil right now, there wouldn't be too much of a difference either way.

Oh yeah, and if the shrub thought that the anti-war protests in 2002 and 2003 were big, he ain't seen nothing yet. You'll see lots of military families showing up in force to decry another war. Besides, just recently, Rumsfeld stated publicly that he offered to resign twice.

11. It certainly is. The PNAC agenda was furthered by congress.
Did they know what they were doing? I know the repukes did, but what about the Dems? I've known about PNAC for at least 5 years. They HAD to know about it. They had to know this administration wants to rule the world. Why did they give him the power to TRY to do that? Did they underestimate them? These are scary times we live in. Unfortunately, the American people/sheeple don't know about PNAC and their agenda/intentions.

13. We Have Moved Beyond Another 9/11
Another terror attack on U.S. soil would not provide the justification for a draft and subsequent invasion of Iran. It would be probably be seen as a failing, particularly after the campaign statements that Our Leader would keep the security Mom’s safe.

Most importantly, it is not needed. They just need to provoke Iran into attacking us first. All they need is a catalyst, and that catalyst is the Likud government in Israel. All the references to Israel taking ‘unilateral’ action in the prole feed media is just about laying the groundwork.

Here's the way I think it will play out.

Step 1) ‘Israel’ strikes Iran's 'nuk-ler' infrastructure.

Step 2) Iran lash's out at US forces in gulf region. Look for the Kitty Hawk and John F. Kennedy steaming up and down the coast of Iran supporting operations, in harm's way.

Step 3) The Emperor Chimp goes in front of Congress, says that we are victims of an unprovoked attack, like Pearl Harbor, calls for a draft to raise sufficient military strength to deal with the rogue nation of Iran.

Step 4) Occupy SE corner of Iran, flatlands (tank country) where oil is. Brutally suppress any remaining opposition in Iraq with our new draftee legions to liberate them from the oppressive burden of oil wealth.

Step 5) Give massive contracts to Halliburton and other buddies to sell off the Iranian oil as 'reparations' for their dastardly attack.

Step 6a) The Oligarchs get rich.

Step 6b) The rest of us go broke or die trying to push through the Zagros mountains and occupy Iran. Of course, this part of the substep is not that important ('Bring em On').

War for profit and control of the masses, that is the face of the new GOP.

Ever wonder what Israel needs long range F-15's and 500 (just delivered) bunker buster bombs for? Bombing Gaza?

http://globalsecurity.org/military/ops/iran-strikes.htm

“On 21 September 2004 Israel acknowledged that it was buying 500 BLU-109 bunker-buster bombs, which could be used to destroy Iran's nuclear facilities. The bombs, which can penetrate more than 7 feet of reinforced concrete, are part of a $319 million package of air-launched bombs being sold to Israel under America's military aid program.”

17. You May Well Be Right
I certainly hope that KKKarl doesn't see another 9/11 as the perfect political scalpel. Your points are very logical and well reasoned. However, I still point to the record-setting anti-war protests which took place at home and abroad before we invaded Iraq. Even if Iran attacks us, those protests will be even larger, especially if the draft is publicly reinstated first.

14. Once the draft comes back (and it will have to), it's GAME OVER
There's no way this country can supply enough ready reserves, National Guard, contractors, and subscribers to Soldier of Fortune magazine to take on Iran. They will have to bring back the draft.

And once Charlie Bushbot has to sacrifice his OWN ass or children for the bonuses of Halliburton executives, it will be the end of all this insanity.

15. A sales job
All they have to do is sell the conflict to the sheeple. Once sold (they do have some success, what with IWR, 9/11, the deficit) the masses will demand troops sign up. "America, Love it or leave it".

Our lynch-mob mentality is still too prevalent. The masses still want revenge for 9/11, and properly motivated they will give up everything for that revenge.

Our job will be to keep the sale from closing.

16. A sales job works wonders as long as no actual courage or sacrifice...
is involved.

Every hardcore right-winger is a fundamental coward. Fear MAKES them right-wing. These people are perfectly content to express their bravado and patriotic fervor by driving Hummers with yellow magnets on the back into their gated minority-proof communities.

This has been the first war in history that is being fought with absolutely no sacrifice from anyone but the soldiers fighting it, their friends and families, and our children who will be footing the bill for decades. We don't get to see the coffins of the soldiers that have sacrificed their lives, because even that is just too unpleasant for the summer soldiers and sunshine patriots at home to have to deal with.

There is no sales job that will make Bushbots put their own asses on the line. None. Every fantasy world eventually encounters a cold abutment with reality.
