'Even Start' is one of the programs Bush wants to kill.
of course, it benefits poor families with limited English skills, so there will probably not be much of a public outcry.

the other night he declared that Even Start had undergone three evaluations that had found it ineffective. Reporters are still looking for these evaluations.....there is at least one out there that says it is VERY effective.

here's some info I found on a typical Even Start program:

Even start is designed to....

* Help break the cycle of poverty and illiteracy by improving the educational opportunities of the state's low-income families, through the integration of adult literacy (e.g., Adult Basic Education or English Language Learning), early childhood education, and parenting support into a unified family literacy program.

* Assist parents in gaining the literacy and parenting skills they need to become full partners in the educational development of their young children, from birth through age seven, through family-centered education programming.

* Help children in reaching their full potential as learners.

of course these goals must take the back of the bus in view of the need to cut taxes for wealthy people and continuing war without end, amen.

1. Has anyone looked in the RW talkingpoints notebook? or
something that Bill Bennet or ... or... something that JEFF GANNON
may have written for GOPUSA?

4. Yes maybe "Jeff Gannon" wrote three articles on it, and they
also said that "Even Start" is ineffective.

2. Classic Conservatives valuing life
Doing away with "family centered education programming?" Why James Dobson must be reeling in his Klavern.

3. There was a good report on "Even Start" on CNN
recently, by a woman named Dana Bash.

The report said that Barbara Bush (George W.'s mother) was a big supporter at the time "Even Start" was created.

They also showed a female teacher in the program as saying maybe it isn't always effective, but they don't destroy the military budget on the grounds that not every military contract is effective.
