Hated Dean as presidential candidate, love Dean as DNC chair
Edited on Sat Feb-12-05 01:53 PM by Proud2BAmurkin
Who's with me?

I think the democrats as a party found the right place for Howard Dean both in the primaries and in the competition for DNC chair. For all the criticisms of "the party establishment" the fact that WE are the party establishment got lost in the arguments.

Hopefully this is a sign democrats are learning how to act like a PARTY despite differences, like the Repukes who have been winning every election because they learned it and we didn't.

14. What everyone is forgetting.........
Is (Mrs) Dr Dean can continue her good work and Chairman Dean can do is. This is truly a win-win..Mrs Dr Dean was unfortunately a liability for Dean in the Presidential race. It wouldn't in the end made a difference BUT she was a problem.

8. I agree wholeheartedly.
I supported Dean in the primaries, but his real place is as a leader of an organizational movement, not as an electoral candidate.

10. I didn't support Dean during the primaries
But I did think he had a lot of good qualities and his message resonated with me. I just didn't think he was electable. Anyone who gets numerous write ups in the Village Voice that are extremely complimentary, wont win the GE! LOL! He was painted as too anti-establishment, anti status quo, and liberal. Unfortunately, our country is not ready to support such a candidate for President.

I think choosing Dean for Chair, was the BEST move our party could make right now. I am pleased as punch!

13. Same here
I didn't think he was electable, but I sure loved his messages. They really hit home and said all the things that's been in my head.

He makes good old fashioned common sense which is so needed for a lot of people.

I think he's great for the party and will make an excellent chair.

11. I have to agree...
... I'm a huge admirer of Dean, but I think the very qualities that make me like him would make it hard for him to get elected president.

To me, it is a great compromise to have him as DNC chair. I think it might well be the best use of his talents.

He definitely has my undivided support.

12. I agree with you to a point
And that point on which we diverge is our view of Dean the candidate. While I did not support him after Clark entered the race, I was for him in the early days. I saw him on Cspan give some obscure speech in some obscure hall in Iowa waaaaaaay before even the primary races. His message (and the messenger) was good then and it has only improved.

Howard Dean gets it! And he gets my unqualified support in this new position.

By the way, I'm a person who celebrates the scream ......

YeeeeeeAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Give 'em Hell, Howard!

16. Comments earlier on Kerry blogs
I happend to quote Dean favorably earlier today on the Unofficial Kerry Blog (http://kerryblog.blogspot.com/) and its affiliated blog, Light Up the Darkness (http://www.lightupthedarkness.org/blog/default.asp?view=plink&id=366)

Post is area where, as a Kerry supporter, I agreed that Dean has done a better job--speaking out on Democratic values.

17. He's got fire in the belly.....
He can fire FDR's party up, without having to survive under a MSM microscope---a hostile MSM microscope. I'm truly excited; actually, I can't think of a time I've been excited about the Dem party chairmanship---he's the doctor we desperately need. GO DR DEAN!

18. As a Kerry supporter, I'm in with Dean as DNC Chair.
Howard was the 1st campaign I contributed to, because he wasn't afraid to tell the truth. But Kerry was a better candidate for POTUS, IMHO.

I am totally delighted that he'll be leading us into the 2006 primaries...he's got the rank-and-file behind him and that's what we need for the mid-terms.

Go Doctor!

20. I never hated Dean at all. I felt that there were stronger choices...
such as Bob Graham and Wesley Clark. Defense and Foreign Policy are major issues now and we needed someone who had rock solid credentials on them.

Dean is what we need to re-energize our party and our nation!

Howard Dean was my FIRST CHOICE to be party chairman!

Sorry to be negative. I felt the same way in late December, then I put two and two together and came up with Dean '08 and a win for Jebster.

22. in the primaries
I liked that Dean was a man of principle and stood for what he believed in and meant what he said; it came from the heart. But I dont think he would have been a good President. I thought he would have been like Carter in terms of being disorganized, having bad relationship with Dems in Congress, and being able to make deals and compromises. I thought Clark or Edwards would have been better. However, I am very Happy he is DNC CHair.

23. I supported Dean early, joined DFA, then saw him speak
Edited on Sat Feb-12-05 02:59 PM by Patiod
I walked away from the rally thinking "he's talking to me, but this he is not going to be able to get support from the majority of the American people. He can rally the base, but we're going to need more than that". Saw him on Face the Nation, and my fears were confirmed.

I went over to Clark, then, but that's a whole 'nother story.

Never doubted for a minute, though, that he was The Man when it came to inspiring and rallying the Base.

He will always be a hero of mine for standing up against the war when everyone else was folding. The guy has guts. He will be a GREAT chairman, I'll be writing checks, and if he askes us to pound the pavements, he can count me in.

24. I didn't think Dean would have made a good president...
In the primaries I liked Dean. I admired him and I wasn't convinced he was "unelectable" (although in hindsight I don't see how he would have won). My reason for favoring Kerry, Clark, and Edwards over Dean was that I didn't think Dean would make a good president. For all his good qualities, he seemed too undiplomatic. I didn't feel he had the necessary experience in national politics or good relations with Congress. I didn't think he'd be able to negotiate with a Republican Congress. And though he was far more centrist than people believed I felt he was a bit too similar in temperement to Bush (though of course not nearly as bad). This is just my personal opinion and we'll never know whether it would have been true or not.

But all those qualities make him an EXCELLENT DNC Chair and I'm really happy he got the nod. I'm quite happy with the state of the party right now to be honest. We've got Dean as DNC chair, a real unity among Democrats, talk about how to become the party of reform again, a great field coming together for '08, unified opposition to Social Security, Reid doing a fantastic job as Senate Minority Leader, and Kerry speaking out like a shadow president - I really think we're on the upswing.
