US Soldier's Uniform Hangs from Noose in Front of Home
U.S. Soldier's Uniform Hangs From Noose In Front Of Home

POSTED: 10:58 am EST February 9, 2005

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Nestled in a quiet Sacramento neighborhood is a very loud political statement that is testing the very foundation of the right to free speech.

Hanging from a house in Land Park a soldier's uniform in a noose dangles from a rooftop. The words "your tax dollars at work" are scrolled across the chest.

...

The homeowners behind the controversy are Steve and Virginia Pearcy. They released a statement saying, "There will always be people who are offended by political speech, and the most important forum of all ... is one's own residence. The First Amendment is meaningless unless dissent is allowed."

...

"Unfortunately or fortunately, this is protected speech by the First Amendment ... so there is nothing we can do about it," Sacramento City Councilman Rob Fong said.

9. They are with Me
Policy makers who started this war are the true killers of our soldiers. Those who protect and defend these policy makers corroborate in these deaths. Reality is scary, but there it is right in front of you.

2. I saw this on the Corporate News Network. They guys neighbors
ripped it down.

Evidentally they didn't get the fact that their tax dollars are going to kill troops in an unjust war.

11. Why do Bush thugs believe they are above they are above the law?
Isn't breaking the law "UNpatriotic?"

I hope the homeowners pressed charges AND take them to civil court.

13. Because they are doing the work of God
You know, following God's law, which is clearly superior to man's law. (sarcasm/off)

8. whoa...that is powerful
and somewhat disturbing. I don't think I could hang that from my roof but that couple certainly has a right to free speech.

15. It's already been taken down
Land Park is a wonderful neighborhood, these people have made politcal statements before. It was taken down by a freeper like person, it was shown on the news, the homeowners will press charges if the perp can be id'd. they will be putting up a new display. good for them!

16. Christine Craft will be discussing this subject tonight...
When she subsutitutes on the (Fascist) Dr. Wattenburg radio show 10pm-1am (PCT) on http://www.kgoam810.com/.

She did an on-air interview with Steve Pearcy earlier in the week on her regular show on 'Talk City' radio (Sacramento). They are good people and know exactly what they are doing. Both are lawyers for a big law firm in SF and are willing to fight this whole thing, tooth and nail. Maybe she will do another on-air interview.

Christine also made a big point that another Sacramento radio station actually encouraged listeners to perform the illegal act of taking down the effigy. I think that is going to be the big story in all this. Someone is in trouble!

19. Geeze, what have we sunk too.
Neighbor Marque Cohen, however, has made repeated calls to police and city officials to get the Pearcys' protests removed.

"I'm outraged," he said. "The First Amendment is fine, but I think it's definitely being abused. The forefathers wouldn't have agreed to this type of thing. This is more like malice."

I guess he thinks the 1st Amendment is fine, as long as he agrees with what's being said, huh?

18. A beautiful statement for life. For hope. For truth. It's a flag, stuffed
in the neck. You can see the star. Our foreign policy is killing us. We've already served up half as many as we lost on 9/11. All in the name of global economic/political imperialism. Those kids died for Haliburton shareholders, so they could buy another boat.
