5. What about anyone who cares about the truth?
I don't care what color their skin is, I care that it's somebody that isn't a shill.

That most likely narrows it down to less than a half dozen people.

21. After Letterman got fucked over, nobody is willing to be heir apparent
Because some asshole at the top will just say something along the lines of "Well, they expect bob to take his place so let's surprise them and give them jim"

29. I think Travis is too valuable
in what he does at so many other levels. Also he doesn't seem to be the type to be tied down to scripted news in a short time slot. However it would be more lucrative for him and more enjoyable for us the viewers.

13. Bernard Shaw
Why??????

Bernard Shaw (CNN)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Bernard Shaw was a leading news anchor for the Cable News Network from 1980 to his retirement in 2001.

Shaw is widely remembered for the question he posed to Democratic U.S. presidential candidate Michael Dukakis at his second presidential debate with George H. W. Bush during the 1988 election, which Shaw was moderating.. Knowing that Dukakis opposed the death penalty, Shaw asked Dukakis if he would support an irrevocable death penalty for a man who raped and murdered his wife. Dukakis responded that he would not; some critics felt he framed his response too legalistically and logically, and did not address it sufficiently personally.

31. Hey, he's my local anchor!
I don't watch local news-type shows much, but he's smooth. I don't think he's much of a hard-nosed journalist, though, just a pretty-boy. I'd prefer a host with a little integrity.
We need a black Walter Cronkite.

24. CAROLE SIMPSON--Gutsy, strong woman
She is a SENIOR CORRESPONDENT at ABC, she has INTEGRITY, she is smart, she is articulate, and she doesn't take crap from anyone.

Snips from her impressive bio:
During the 1992 Presidential campaign, Ms. Simpson was moderator of the second Presidential debate in Richmond, Virginia -- the first Presidential debate in history to have a town meeting format. She was one of the reporters on the critically acclaimed documentary, "Black and White America"; and she anchored three hour-long ABC News specials: "The Changing American Family," "Public Schools in Conflict" and "Sex and Violence in Media."

In 1990, Ms. Simpson was a member of the "Nightline" team in South Africa. She helped anchor ABC's live coverage of the release of Nelson Mandela from his 27-year imprisonment. While reporting on a victory celebration in Johannesburg, Ms. Simpson was injured during a brief melee between blacks and the South African police.

Ms. Simpson has also anchored, live, many major breaking news stories, such as the Persian Gulf War, the Tiananmen Square massacre, the fall of Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos, and the Clarence Thomas-Anita Hill hearings.

Ms. Simpson's first assignment for ABC News included coverage of then-Vice President George Bush. She accompanied him on domestic and foreign trips, and on his 1988 Presidential campaign.

32. I second Lester Holt.
He anchored (I think) the CBS affiliate's nightly news here in Chicago a few years back. Had a goofy mustache at the time, but he's the real deal. He'd be the best choice CBS could make. So of course they won't do it.
