Illinois GOP House leader MOCKS Black History Month!!!

Please do not let this bastard get away with this shit. He is the leader of the GOP in the Illinois House and his blog MOCKS Black History Month. Of course they will try to spin it, and the only way he will get away with is if no one says anything!

Missing the mark

This being Black History Month, the fun-loving bloggers at joincross.com decided to recognize great moments in black rock 'n' roll. The site, by the way, is named for House Republican Leader Tom Cross.

Under the heading of "Today in Black Rock History" are such entries as Carole King's birthday, the 30th anniversary of Cher's TV show and the 35th anniversary of Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water." Nothing quite says black rock 'n' roll like Cher or Carole King.

In fact, it appears most of the entries have nothing to do with black rockers. One blogger noticed this and asked for an explanation. The response was: "We wanted to mark the month by highlighting some of the important works by black artists. The 'Today in Black Rock History' is just simply a means to roll into a song." Fer sure, dude.

Now, I'm really pissed. There was a link to an MP3 of When Love Comes to Town, one of my favorite BB King songs. But it's by some lame assed rock band. I'd be willing to bet that the lot of them are melanin deprived. They sure as hell are talent deprived.

He's also been the guy who was positioning himself as the "up and comer" for the Illinois GOP. I realize that is no small feat in a party dominated by folks like Oberweise (the MILK Nazi) Henry Hyde, and lately Alan Keyes, but damn, even THOSE guys know better than this.

Let him know he's an asshole, but take some consolation in the fact that THIS is the future of the Illinois GOP.

BTW, the MP3 cited upthread is actually U2 with BB King. U2 wrote it FOR BB King, it features BB King. It was recorded at Sun Studios in Memphis.

I didn't listen to much because I was already upset by the site. When I clicked on the MP3, I honestly expected BB King, because I didn't know anyone else had done that song. When I heard the sound of a rock band (I don't much like rock...just personal taste), I'm afraid I lost it.

Now that I've made a perfect idiot of myself, I might add that I've been a fan of Tower of Power for over 30 years, and it frosts my windshield that they still aren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, despite many lesser bands being there. Of course, they're mostly melanin challenged, too, so it isn't a racial issue so much as it's disrespect for soul, blues, and r&b in general.

I heard this guy during the election on a couple of local talk shows...he's definitely a smartass. He's one of those that has an answer for everything and you are still not smart enough to get it. Smarmy and then some.

It's OK...the Illionis GOOP party is still in free-fall and anything that adds to the spinning couldn't hurt. I haven't heard when Ryan's trial begins...and I sure hope Keyes keeps talking about running for Governor.

or maybe just stupid. Is this an official blog site for Tom Cross, by Tom Cross? Is it mocking black history month because on this DAY in history, they didn't put things which happened in rock and roll regarding black artists? I don't know how easy it would be to find what happend with black rock and roll artists on February 9th, through the years, but there is probably a general rock and roll hall of fame kind of thing which lists rock and roll events. There's a whole lot of punching going on here, but let me tell you, Tom Cross is one of the three most decent republicans that exist in this state,imo, and the other two are women. I haven't heard all that much about him since he took over the leadership of the minority in the house, but prior to that time, he was known to have close associations with the other side of the aisle, to vote independent of his party's line, and to be a decent human being. It's hard for me to think he turned into a raging a$$hole the day he replaced Lee Daniels -- who most would agree was one. But then again, it has happened to others when they have risen in power.
