his life hell.

We don't run a Democratic Candidate for Governor in 2006, instead I say that we endorse and support Green Party Candidate Peter Camejo while redirecting the majority of our resources to increasing our margins in the statehouse assembly and senate.

Camejo is a kick ass straight talking outsider who isn't afraid to tell Arnold what he really thinks of him, instead of just kissing his ass like other Dems will be tempted to do. Lockyer isn't going to be our champion folks, lets face it we are better off supporting a candidate who, although is a long shot, can bloody Arnold's nose with no remorse, energize the youth to come out and vote, and at the same time make Arnold's second term as lockdown and frustrating as Regan's with an even bigger majority in the statehouse.

The 2006 campaing should focus on energizing and getting out the grassroots, the opposite of Arnold's corporatist, big business Enron administration. I think ultimately this is the best route to go.

Thoughts?

1. Your premise is flawed
If the current wave of vocal opposition keeps swelling, Lockyer could kick his stupid austrian ass.

2. I'm afraid that I disagree, Lockyer voted for the meathead retard in the
recall. He will get trounced into nothingness if he gets the nomination.

3. No, get Feinstein to run and drop her Senate seat!...
Edited on Sun Feb-13-05 01:15 PM by calipendence
Put someone else in the Senate seat that will do better and at the same time get Arnold kicked out.

I'd rather have some newer blood in as a Dem for the Senate anyway, and I'm hoping that Boxer goes for the presidency in 08. We need to find another decent replacement for Boxer in 2006 and not wait until 2008. That way if Feinstein gets the governor's spot and Boxer wins in '08, we also get a Dem to replace her with instead of a Repub that Arny surely would appoint if he's still in power then!

I'd like to think she'd make a better Governor than a Senator anyway. And if she can fix the state budget in a way that doesn't kill us here, great! If she doesn't, then it will leave the door open for someone else to come in.

4. I don't know if that will make Arnold's life hell

Although I agree with your assessment of Camejo and I, too, believe Arnold will be hard to beat.

Camejo is not just another left wing gadfly who runs for office on a third party in order to use the electoral process to give his ideas a hearing. In 2002, a few newspapers -- some with generally main stream views -- actually endorsed Camejo as an alternative to the pathetic choice of Democrat Gray Davis and Republican Bill Simon. One of those papers, the Napa Valley Register, pointed out that Camejo was addressing issues like energy and laying out possible solutions to problems while the two major candidates were talking about nothing. Camejo also received good notices for his handling of his campaign during the recall of 2003 from people who don't usually agree with him.

I held my nose and voted for Davis in the 2002 general election, but, if Davis were just a smidgen further ahead in the last polls or if the GOP had a candidate with anything resembling brains, I would have voted for Camejo. If the Democrats act like they are not going to take the gubernatorial race in 2006 seriously and nominate an uninspiring cream puff (they have several from whom to choose), then my vote might quietly go to Camejo.

Nevertheless, even if the Democrats nominate no one, it is difficult to see Camejo giving Schwarzenegger anything to worry about. Even if the Democrats do nominate someone, Camejo will be there to air his views. The difference is that after two elections which he has impressed many with his ability to articulate his views, if not his ability to get votes, he will not have to fight as hard to be heard.

7. Newsom might make a good candidate
I'm sure Mayor Newsom wants to be governor. Does he want to run against Schwarzenegger in 2006, or would he rather wait until 2010 when he might have a better chance of winning? Newsom is young and doesn't have to risk losing to a popular incumbent.

It's probably too soon to tell how vulnerable Schwarzenegger might be next year. Even with some of his recent problems, I still think he will be hard to beat and I can't see Phil Angelides (who also wants to be governor) beating him even if he is vulnerable.

I will agree that if Schwarzenegger's recent problems cause a reversal of his fortunes, Newsom would be a good person with whom to go.

6. Great plan- Camejo will never get any real support from the
Dems even if this fantasy were to occur. Arnold would also have millions to spend on ads to promote a repub assembly. Christ don't be so pessimistic!

Reagan won reelection in 1970 in a close race, 53%. Arnold could easily win only closely or even *gasp* lose. He's not invunerable in polls.
