Any "Keep Senator Dayton" Efforts going on???
I heard on Randi Rhodes (AAR) that Mark Dayton (Senator who voted against both Condi and Gonzales) would not be running for reelection in 2006 because he is being targeted by the Bush machine and says he just doesn't have the money to run against that kind of onslaught.

As this is really one of the few Senators we have with a real spine, it would be a real shame to lose him. Are there any efforts to raise money and show Sen. Dayton that we've got his back in '06 and persuade him to rethink not running?

Now if the Repugs want to target Lieberman, more power to them, but Senators like Dayton are few and far between and I'd hate to lose him.

1. Why would the repubs ever target liberman???
I hope one of Dean's objectives with the DNC is to assist office holders who are on the repub target list. We know that if they're on that list, we want to keep them!

2. They wouldn't target him, unfortunately.
I used Lieberman for the contrast. In any case, I think we should target Lieberman in his Dem primary with a more progressive candidate. Surely the Connecticutians are ready to get rid of Joementum...

3. I wrote Senator Dayton to please run again...
And I wrote him to ask why was he dropping out? I also asked him if he was threaten - and to say we 'have his back' - as much as we could....

4. I think he's great. Well worth keeping. He's the one who also pointed
out the 9-11 lies concerning the timeline and why Norad did not respond.

We really NEED him!

5. If it were to happen, the Republicans would destroy him for it.
Flip-flopper works for Senate elections, too. And that'd be a damn big flipflop. Not only would he have to deal with that, but the office closing, and... it won't happen. Don't get me wrong. Mark is one of my two favorite senators. He's my senator. I stay in contact with both him and his staff. This pissed me off beyond all belief, but I understand that if he's not willing to fundraise, he's not willing to fundraise. That poses a problem for this election, and every election in the future if he were to continue in the Senate. A candidate that doesn't want to do fundraising is the worst possible thing you can have to work with.

I wish, but it's just not plausible.

6. Is it just money?
We need him and it seems that raising money could be accomplished. Kerry just donated money to the DNC - couldn;t some of that be used?

We really need him!

7. Don't know. He got those unspecified threats that forced him to close his
offices after he pointed out the inconsistencies in the usual response to a plane going off-course compared to the grossly negligent response that occurred on 9-11. I would suspect BushCo has threatened his life. I hope he reconsiders. He's a freshman Senator and already doin' us proud.
