"Should Internet chat rooms be closely monitored?"
That was the "Last Call" question on CNN just now. They posted the number as 1-800-807-2620.

Looks like the MSM and Rove are going to try to start reeling us in.......

1. They should just move in with us
and monitor our dinner conversations. This would create jobs and housing for the unemployed, would improve homeland security, and would be good land use.

I have a spare bedroom. My only requirement is that I want one that bakes cookies.

5. They are scared of the Internet. People are actually catching on and
communicating ideas without their control.

9. Yes.
They should be monitored closely by reporters and corporate media owners so that maybe they might realize that the American people are getting tired of the celebrity trial du jour and the "We all love Bush" stories they seem to be so fond of.

People involved in crime would more than likely operate in private, encrypted chat. They would have to crack the crypto first. Silly to monitor "open" rooms..

12. Monitored? For what? There is no penalty for exposing phony journalists.

13. Please- as if they aren't monitoring them now.
These corporate creeps would love to be able to censor the internet. The free exchange of information scares them.

…closely. 24/7.

They'll die of boredom within months. I used to moderate a forum on AOL once upon a time. And for kicks, I'd go out to the lobby occasionally. Yikes! Endless hellos, a/s/l checks, trolls, phishing, shoutouts, and "any hot girls wanna chat?"

Could be funny if the 'monitors' meet the 'molester hunters' and of course, the molesters trolling for children. Think of the headlines!

Oh, hi Agent Mike!

B-)

15. You don't think that they already are?
There is for example an organisation (Cyber Angels?) in which volunteers join chat rooms and watch for people taking advantage of minors. I don't see anythng wrong with that.
