And the fetishism for the sex part of the story, in the community, might be greater, or of more immediate importance than Bush, Plame, etc. This story combines several fetishes all into one -- closeted gay male, the military, sensationalism, authoritarianism -- plus, he's kind of cute.

I don't mean to read anyone's mind, but I imagine that there are certain constituencies who care more about the gay outing, the salaciousness and the "fantasy," and may be projecting their own internalized homophobia that hopes to see Gannon destroyed. It simply depends on which constituency that Aravosis is pitching his "bombshell" to. Do we KNOW that it's to us -- the political watchers?

I could be wrong, but I'm concerned about the "he's toast," and its implications.

a couple days ago, and that's what really leapt out at me when I read the new Gannon story. I had never heard the term before, but it explains a lot of the disturbing undertones to this blind jingoistic patriotism we see so much of lately. Not to mention the sexual nature of much of the Abu Ghraib torture, and the incomprehenbile lack of outrage on the part of many Americans.

There is something twisted under the surface of this Republican obsession with morals and family values and it needs to be exposed to the light of day. Hopefully Aravosis' article is just the beginning.

64. Sexual attraction isn't fixed, in my opinion

and should include broad categories of sexual behavior. I think there is a subset of gay culture that not only fetishizes the military, but seems to have a "straight" or "power" subtext, too. Kind of like the homosexuality thing in Islam. Seems natural, enough -- heteros have dominance/submission fantasies of the same vein -- even including the military. I think that a lot of Asian fetishism got started as a result of American military presence in Indochina.

I just have to say, if you take into account freeper homophobia, their obsession with the military, their tendency to either view the powerful as gods, or wish to be the "powerful," -- there is DEFINITELY something there. Especially if you take into account "splitting and projecting."

I'm not sure where the gay military thing came from -- but I'm thinking it had to do with "males in close quarters," much like the sex in prisons, with mores and connotations, all its own. You know -- the Villiage People and "In the Navy."

Fascinating, really. Particularly because I don't beleive in either a choice-based or biological origin of homosexuality -- I think the whole thing is a fetish, revolving around either one's own body (as in narcissistic personality disorder) or around the fetishism of the body of the same sex. I think it is almost completely subconscious, and the variance in fetishism, also nicely explains "bisexuality," and this "straight-gay" sex thing.

At any rate, it's a big open can o' worms, now.

In the past these kinds of teasers have generally been less than earth shaking - we all remember talking points memo's shifting tectonic plates that never did shift at all.

This may be different because already the work done by so many people has been excellent and uncovered a lot and I'm sure there is a lot more to uncover but...

I'm going to remain cautiously optimistic that AmericaBlog has another "really big" addition to this story. The MSM (especially Leslie and Howie) are doing their best to bury this thing, I am big time thankful for the tireless bloggers who continue to pull on the thread and expose more of the corruption. Eventually the truth will out.
