21. That's an angle that could make this a real story
I do have to wonder: If the WH wanted a shill in the press corps, why THIS guy?? How did he ingratiate himself? Could be that he got where he got the "old fashioned way" -- sexual favors, a sugar daddy mentor?

I too am hoping the story isn't just that he's a Ho. (We knew that!)

14. So, Guckert is a prostitute.
Are there any white-house related implications to that, or are we just establishing that Guckert himself is a whore?

If the latter, then I don't see how this is a big story at all.

17. OK.. lets look at this big picture a bit from the side maybe?
The rep from Virgina that resigned because of the gay phone sex tapes, could he have been involved with this somehow? Could the phone line have been some how attached to Gannon and this group?

Add to that the scandal from the previous scandal with the call boys roaming the white house after hours, could they be in the business of creating situations for blackmail purposes? And, when you no longer follow the party line, they out you, or if they need a fall guy to divert attention, the lowest on the totem pole gets outed?

We need to see if we can further connect the dots with the history of this behavior by them with the current issues. We know that some of the players are related, we just need to cement that with documentation.

Or, I could be totally off the mark. But, I don't think so. You don't just go into the "gay call boy" business on a lark. Someone has to mastermind it and control it. It would make sense to pass the torch from someone that has some experience to someone with new engery to continue it, doesn't it?

28. We Know "Gannon's" A Dirt Bag...So???
Yep, a story linking McClelland or any media figure of member of the regime with this POS would be a nice push in the right direction.

I'd call big a document or picture or some other hard evidence linking the principals in this case..."Gannon", Eberle and others that have been uncovered with this regime and with members of the corporate media. Not speculation, but facts...telephone records, travel vouchers, bank transfers...things were you can see money is changing hands...that's what'll make this story big.

"Gannon's" the gateway into a right wing network of media manipulation and corruption. It's deep and widespread and needs to be exposed. Getting sidetracked on personal issues...even if they're as hypocritical and spiteful as "Gannon's" are a side story, not the main one.

If we're going to ever have a credible media that will present ALL side of an issue and all a diversity of voices, we have to shame the coporate media by exposing it.

Cheers and thank-you for working hard on getting the truth out on your site.

42. And Make It A Sideshow
The corporate media would love for this to turn into sex.

Yes, it gets attentions and ratings, but it also is what the corporate media wants to avoid discussing how they are corrupted and manipulated by this regime and the Repugnican party.

Playing the sensational also will drown out any hard, substantial evidence that comes out from ongoing investigations and gives the right wing hate machine ammo to call this a partisan witch hunt.

This story is super tough as one of the targets in this story are the very people who are the "gatekeepers" of information and control a lot of what most Americans see and hear. I'd prefer if we have "sensational"...it be a check to "Gannon" that can be traced through Eberle to Gillespie and the RNC. Or, Morton Blackwell's "Journalism School" providing paid experts and being given preferential treatment in the hires of new employees at major networks and newspapers.

I know it ain't sexy...but Watergate was considered a third-rate robbery in the beginning.

53. Yep...We're A Couple Steps From That Point
I dream that we get beltway talking heads fighting talking heads fighting "journalists" fighting news reporters as to who knew who or what and if they knew what they knew or why didn't they say anything. That will be TV well worth watching...and it could happen if people's careers, power and money are threatened.

I also hope that the other "Gannons" that will surface have just as sloppy trails that will lead us to other rats and avenues and fuel the feeding frenzy among those who love to feed the most. Consider this: Tweety trying to defend his credibility vs. charges by Novakula trying to cover his ass. This is where the getting gets good...the phone ring...the dream ends. But the digging goes on.

Cheers!

59. I think you miss the point
Without Lewinski and the "stained blue dress" the entire Blowjobgate story that led to impeachment would have gone "down the rabbit hole".

Whether we like it or not, "sex sells". That is the secret ingredient that has been missing from all of these * scandals, and believe me, the stench from those scandals would knock a fly off a shit-wagon.

Enron - not sexy enough
Halliburton - not sexy enough
bribed jounalist (three so far) - not sexy enough
WMD - not sexy enough
52 FAA warnings - not sexy enough
torturegate - a little sexy, but not quite there
Mediscare bribery - not sexy enough
and on and on and on and on,

But.....throw in a male prostitute in his "tighty-whiteys" throwing softball questions to the pResident, hooking up with the Swift Boaters, knob-hobbing, or hob-knobbing with the POTUS....well the media might just pay attention to THAT!

It's sick, but unless there is the possibility of a penis in someone's mouth, the media will just let it disappear.

WHAT DO WE TELL THE CHILDREN??????

61. Sex Backfires As Well...
Ask Bob Livingston...or even Ken Starr...this dude's dreams of the Supreme Court or AG went bye bye.

If you ask a wingnut, they'll always say in Clinton's case "it wasn't the sex". It was the "lie". Yes, the sex got the ball rollin and made the most headlines and jokes, but it was the "lie" that was the issue. I tend to agree in the point that if Clinton had come out at the outset and said "OK, ya got me, I did her" instead of trying to deny, I highly doubt we'd ever had gotten to the inquisition stage. In the end, those who hate Clinton, always say it's "the lie"...a lie about sex, but a lie nonetheless.

Again, I wanna know more about "Gannon's" bosses, not "Gannon's" tighty-whiteys. Yep, who wrote those softballs he lobbed in Press Conferences aired live on CNNservative and seen worldwide (We already have proof the guy forged most of his written stuff...who wrote those questions)...also made sure Bunnypants called on "Gannon" that day (we know every move in those "impromptu" conferences are scripted). These are the question that have to rise above "Gannon".

Keep it as sex and the monkeys will say that's all the 'libruls' are making this a personal thing...pulling every codeword in the book about what homosexual lesbian commie pinko terrorist tree hugging bleeding heart feminazi.

I'd one day like to tell my children that I fought for freedom of speech and information in this country. The great thing is there here fighting with me.

Cheers!

63. Unfortunately, I'm being Realistic
I agree that the bigger story goes way beyond sex. Regretably in today's media, the only way you are going to get anyone to dig into this story, and begin answering those very important questions you ask, is if it has the "salaciousness" needed to keep the media interested. Sex does sell.

For example: If Britney Spears' first music video had her dancing around in a head to toe bathrobe vice a skimpy schoolgirl outfit, we would not be saddled with the torture of having to call her a pop star.

I don't personnaly care if Jeff Gannon, or whatever his name is, was fist-f#$king chickens. Unless the media can make a buck covering the story, you might as well complain about Enron ripping off little old ladies in California. See how far that story got!

When we get back in power, the first order of business better be ripping our media out of the hands of the powerful corporations. All they care about is the bottom line. If it does not sell newspapers, they just ain't gonna print it.

45. seems like we have been played like a fiddle
jerked around by a blogger.

What happens here?

I tell you what I think. A little bit of fame where before there was none, An appearance or two on teevee, a book or two, a web site overflowing with fawning admirers, and the humble blogger, whose motivations in the beginning, may have been noble, begins to develop a huge inflated ego--and power corrupts, or in this case, if this all is true, at the very least leads to ego stuffing, bloviating tricks upon the naive followers to keep up the now accumulated "reputation"

It only serves to sully the blogger and the rest of the bloggers out there, who might possibly be doing some real work.

If this is all true re this promised, really, really, big, big breaking scoop, this blogger has done much to bring down the rest of the bloggers out there.

It also makes them look like amateurs. Doesn't matter--they got on teevee--

I do hope for the sake of all, it may turn out to be otherwise, but as it stands, it looks cheap, foolish and deserving of the garbage pail.

49. I went there
and Gannon lied about it, of course. I ask myself: so?

True, the question does remain how he got a pass in the WH press corps, and who put him there and there are lots of other questions as to his access to Valerie Plame's name, but there are also lots of questions about the horror of 9-11, and they remain unanswered, kept secret, redacted and obfuscated with hardly a journalist having the nerve to question or investigate. Will there be a follow up by anyone? I doubt it. The spin will come out of the WH and no one will dare question it.

It is the end of Gannon, but he was gone anyhow. Bush, Rove, McClellan, Feith, Rumsfeld et al with their Pentagon secret intelligence brown shirts will go on destroying the country, making war for profit and gain, the liar Condi will go on lying because she does not know how to do anything else, and "nothing to see here" about it all, in fact, praise is heaped upon them all; that is the news of the day.

Sorry, just a bitter skeptic at this point. I am weary of being jerked around and feeling helpless to stop it.

62. Um, did you miss the part about how he's a Male prostitute?
Edited on Mon Feb-14-05 03:38 PM by yodermon
And has been granted special press access to WH briefings?

News flash: Prostitution is illegal. Prostitutes have clients. Clients can be named. Deals can be cut.

Like, do you think that this john would like his identity exposed:
I hired Jeff last winter when I was in Philadelphia on business. I was so pleased with the experience that I recently had him travel with me on a weekend trip to North Carolina. I am an active duty senior officer in the US Army. Discretion is of utmost importance to me. Jeff understands that because of his Marine background. He has so many talents besides the bedroom, it was a great experience for me. He is all-man, athletic and self-assured. Great body, he helped me work out twice, one time on base. The sex was great, he's a hard core top, verbal and strong, never romantic, but not mean. But there was so much more. He is intelligent, but would not want me to tell you that and very interesting. Being military also, we had much in common. I feel completely at ease that my secret is safe with him.

...

I am versatile, 40+ year old career military man. I am used to being in command, so it was good for me to give control over to someone else for a change. I like to suck a masculine man's dick and get fucked hard. I did all of that several times that weekend. Because of my position I cannot find someone compatible in the usual ways. I am luck y to have found this jarhead.

Keep your eyes open for higher-level military suicides over the next weeks.

47. This will backfire on us if pushed too far
Exposing Gannon as a gay hooker will only.... endear him to the religious right and make us look like cruel hypocrites.

These people don't really hate SIN, they hate NON-REPENTANCE. So what that works out to is:

"When my enemy sins he is vile because he will not repent. I know he will not repent because he is my enemy and he is one of satan's minions. In fact, he is trying to CONVERT the whole world to sin and vice, which is all know is very very seductive."

"When we sin, we have erred and to err is human. We are generally good people, but in moments of weakness Satan can overwhelm us. It is even harder in these endtimes because my enemy promotes a culture of sin and non-repentance. And on top of it, in our moment of fallen shame the LIBERAL MEDIA-- who condones these sins anyway-- persecutes us for them."

They don't see this as hypocrisy. Fundamentalists set it up so that they sin all the time, they just feel guilty and blame Satan (and liberals) for their behavior. If we push forward on this too hard it will be like the 'Mary Cheney is a lesbian' debacle. Kerry was seen as insensitive for publically pointing to a family's private struggle with Satan.

The only way for this story to have effect would be if one of their OWN discovered Gannon's sins. Then maybe instead of him being a victim of the left wing media, he might be one of their spies and infiltrators working to corrupt the hearts of upright youth.

How do we deal with this lunacy?

55. Yeah, I'm a right wing apologist, I'm so sick of this nonsense
NO, I happen to be a GLBT person who is used to dealing with these fuckers.

I am so sick of being called a right-wing apologist by every person who disagrees.

How am I APOLOGIZING for explaining how these creepy RW lunatics work? I spent 6 years in Texas having to deal with these RW morons, I hope I learned something about their beliefs.

LIMBAUGH: FORGIVEN!
CLINTON: CONSIDERED THE ANTICHRIST!

57. I agree with you
Unless there is actual proof that he got his post through sexual favors with a supposedly straight member of the Bush Admin, then this story is no big deal.

Remember, anything a Republican does before today can be written off as a youthful indescretion.

60. I think John may have pointed to a way during his interview
on Aaron Brown.

He pointed to the difference between what is private (personal life) and what is public (a business endeavor).

There may be a useful parallel here: what is private (sin) and what is public (crime). Crimes are also sins, of course, but personal repentance does not obviate damage to the community or to the state. We've let the Cons fuzz up these two categories to their advantage.

Does that work?
