Anyone else find this Americablog.org lead-up ridiculous?
At first, I could understand his wanting to drum up as much publicity as possible, but this has gone way over the line. Now it doesn't matter WHAT the story is, it's going to look like a letdown.

I haven't seen this much lead-up since the Segway or "The Cat in the Hat" were being publicized, and we all know how those turned out.

How much more effective would it have been if the Americablog guy just did his thorough research, published his report, and then just let America be shocked and surprised at pictures of Guckert and Rove's "Bob Crane party", or whatever it is.

I think impact is more important than lead-up. But that's just me.
(And besides, I'm wearing my F5 key out.)

Oh, yes of course,
but bloggers are, almost by definition, narcissists, so why shouldn't the guy have his fun and watch his hits spike?

2. I do!
If he's got something to say, I'll be grateful, but at this point he's starting to deserve a sparkly "Attention Whore" tiara.

4. That will depend on what it is, I suppose.....
If it's more that just makes Gannon look stupid it will be limited to us in the leftie internet realms and be more or less tantamount to "rubbing it in".

If it's something that implicates the white house then it may be worth the lead up.

6. Hey....most of us enjoy a good mystery. It probably won't be as big
as we are led to believe...but at least it keeps the story going when the MSM is the spiker...

It's important to keep it going. It ties into Plame in a big way and maybe will help get Fitzgerald off his butt or get "another investigation going" as John Dean has carefully alluded to in his article posted here on DU.

16. Get The Info Out...And Tons Of It
I appreciate the value of self-promotion and the need for bloggers to make noise to get media attention, but there's a line he's crossing here.

If this story turns out to be another "lifestyle" item...the corporate media will spin it, if they bother to mention anything at all, as this being a personal, partisan vendetta...and it'll be echoed for the next week on hate radio. In the meantime, something that could open a door for larger inquiry...proving "Gannon's" part of a network of paid "media" operatives and how the corporate media's complicit in much of this...will not be heard as the personal noise will drown it out.

I'm watching the work at Daily Kos...some there seem to be keeping their eye on the ball here.

This is gonna take time...and bombshells really won't drop until we get these people going after each other...when there's so much stuff that their conflicts come into the open. Any lead that can start that would be a great advancement.

12. Me, too!
I'm an extremely judgmental judgmental bore!

The whole thing over at AMERICAblog reeks of a stupid self-promotion stunt. After all this buildup, there's no way John can deliver anything that will justify it -- well, maybe if it leads to high-level Bush admin resignation by the end of the day ...

10. Yes, I find it ridiculous and extremely counterproductive
If this is a sex story, it will feed the "bloggers-as-sexual-lynch-mob" narrative. Another perverted reversal of reality, as we all know who the true sexual lynch mob is.

13. If its something important then this is very good showmanship
If its a trivial aspect then yes its a waste of time.

When dealing with the masses you need more than just the facts. You need to grab their attention. You need to engage their emotions. Anything less and the bulk of the people will simply walk on by.

Look at how this has already grabbed our attention. Its interesting. Its fascinating. Of course this sort of attention can backfire. If it turns out to be something silly he will greatly anger all those caught by his actions. But ... if its something good. Boom.

15. I think it is a hoot!
It is not annoying to me, it is entertaining reading the responses to each hint and what it might mean, etc.

If I found it annoying I simply wouldn't go to the site or hit refresh as I am confident when the full story goes up at Americablog, it will be posted here immediately.

19. Agreed- it's very tabloid.
This sort of hype makes bloggers in general look more like gossip columnists than investigative reporters.

21. I'm still waiting for some techtonic plates...
did I miss them?

Yeah, the run-up was pretty bloated for a story that doesn't go much of anywhere interesting.

I want proven WH connections. I want to know about the Plame case. I could care less about one cheesy male prostitute.
