Actor Lectures Lawmaker On Democrats' Faults
Mon Feb 14 2005 10:16:38 ET

Actor Ron Silver lit into freshman Rep. Melissa Bean (D-Ill.) at the party following the Washington Press Club Foundation's annual Congressional dinner Wednesday night.

Silver launched into a lengthy, disjointed lecture about everything that's wrong with the Democratic Party * its policies, its politicians. Bean could barely get a word in edgewise, as Silver kept interrupting and wagging his finger at her, ROLL CALL reports.

"Speaking dramatically, Silver told his life story. His family came through Ellis Island. He's the son of blue-collar, working class Democrats, first person in his family to go to college, yadda yadda yadda."

At one point in the mostly one-way conversation, Silver interrupted Bean by calling her "sweetheart."

Developing...

Even when Silver was still a democrat, he was an idiot. When Clinton was inaugurated, he looked up at the fighter jets in the sky, at first annoyed at their presence, but then he realized and said "wait, those are OUR planes now."

.. and make me sick to my stomach every time he opens his fucking mouth.

Had a part on the West Wing, I think The Practice, and some old 80's-90's movies.

Was a Liberal but for some reason switched to Conservative from out of the blue like Dennis Miller.

12. Ron can't see a problem with a prez who refused to read the Hart-Rudman
report on global terror that was handed to him on Jan30, 2001?

Does anyone SERIOUSLY believe that NO Democratic president would have read that 2.5 year study of worldwide terror and implemented its urgent proposals for homeland security?

Problem with Repubs and idiots like Silver is that they have no sense of logic or accountability.

16. Any Roll Call subscribers
I searched in their site for "Ron Silver" and got this hit for an article dated 2/14/05:
http://www.rollcall.com/issues/50_73/hoh/8140-1.html

The description does not fit the lead-in paragraph, though. Perhaps this story is part of a larger one.

Must be it, though, because the prior one is dated 1/20/05.

17. Apparently, becoming reichwing is a
career move for celebs who aren't working much and have low visibility. They get booked on the wingnut "news" shows based on their names...because even a subzero list celeb is still a celeb. It's just a way of getting some camera time. They'd say anything. And do. Silver peaked in the '80's. He's now desperate and pathetic; and his flop sweat is somehow enthralling to the right. Maybe they feed on the humiliation.
Look, we got a Hollywood guy to situp and beg.
It's empowering.
No Paul Newman. Robert Redford. Robert De Niro. Susan Sarandon. Sean Penn. Tim Robbins.
No Oscar winners for the right.
Just....Ron Silver.

18. One Of Perle's Boys...The Mouth Of Crown Heights...
Sadly Silver speaks for many right wing and Orthodox Jews I know. Yep, the Israel first group...who are under the mistaken belief that this regime has the common interests as the Likud and other right wingers in Israel.

In the late 70's, Silver came to Skokie during the KKK march...he was part of Meir Kahane's boys from the JDL...who were extremely obnoxious and made a bad situation even worse.

He's a darling of Perle & Wolfie and hob nobs with Bill Christol and Ben Ginsberg...all part of the machine that manages to get this guy on talk shows to spew their venom.

This guy talks in very simple, naive terms. He can't differentiate that the same fundies that he thinks are his friends, need to use Jews like him for their goofy view of Armageddon. He connects with Jews as his story is one many of us have heard most of our lives (especially those who had parents or grandparents who came from Europe) who are anxious to climb into any bed that gives them a false sense of security.

Hopefully Melissa let him make a total fool of himself and let it go. At this point, there's no arguing with a sick and corrupted mind.

20. Thank God most American Jews aren't right-wing and orthodox.
Amazed me that the Likud stays in power, even though most Jews I know personally, including Israelis, tend to be pretty liberal...

I guess Sharon & co. do the same mindfuck on Israelis vis-a-vis terror as the Bushies do to the US.

24. It's The Same Mess We're Seeing Here...
There's a complex that has developed between the concept of security and what that truly means.

The fear of getting blown up is a very real fear in Israel and how people react to it is how that nation is split. Those who understand the need to solve problems through reason and negotiation vs. those who want to lash out and answer every attack with a bigger one of their own. Many Israelis are in the middle of these two schools...and depending on how the prevailing military winds, so they blow from one side to another.

I don't want to venture into Israeli/Palestinian stuff here...but consider this mindset: A email I got right after 9/11 from a Jewish group (of course asking for money) and comparing it to the Palestinian suicide bombers. They drew out the 3,000 killed here on a population of 300,000,000 and compared it to if that happened in Israel...saying this would be 30,000 killed. Highly effective stuff if you're scared.

26. I understand not wanting to go into that.
As an atheist from pretty early on, I didn't like the company of religious Christians and I grew up hanging around tons of Jewish/Israeli friends. They had a part in my being more open to liberal ideas than kids who hung in gentile social circles.

Because of that, I have a natural tendency to sympathize with Israel, but even at the time, it was pretty clear to me that the emotional impact of the terrorist attacks even back in the 80s was hindering these otherwise rational liberals' ability to look at the subject objectively.

It's a very difficult subject to approach with many folks who are intimately connected to it.

But I do think Sharon and the Likudnik gov't take a much too extremist approach with the Palestinians.

At the same time, I feel very uncomfortable if I go to an anti-war protest and there is a "Remember Jenin" contingent there that seem to be more intent on hating Israel than bringing about a peace. It's sad, because it seems like nothing more than a problem of extremists on both sides keeping this whole nightmare going...

29. Your Sharing Is Appreciated
At 13, in 1969, I spent the summer in Israel, living with friends of my family...and had a real good view, at that time, of what it was to be an Israeli and living in that part of the world.

That summer, Israeli and Egyptian jets dueled daily over the Suez and air raid shelters were everywhere. I also traveled into the West Bank...it was amazingly open at that time...no walls...I rode the public busses. What a time warp. I met many Palestinians...a large number worked for Israelis...and saw both the common ground both people had as being oppressed as well as the discrimination between the European Jews (the majority then with money) and the Palestinian and Arabic Jews.

This conflict has gone on so long it's developed so many different facets and factions and I attempt to view what I see and read from which faction is presenting it and what light it's attempting to shine.

Cheers!

His fulltime role is playing a former Democrat who is in love with the current occupant of the WH. I wonder what he gets paid for this service?

I've seen Silver around on the hooligan-"news" circuit, and he truly strikes me as a guy who's flipped out -- jittery, unfocused, inappropriately angry, self-absorbed, etc.
