5. Bottom line: it's looking confirmed that he was a gay prostitute.
Edited on Mon Feb-14-05 01:45 PM by crispini
The conclusion is great though:

So in the end, why does this matter? Why does it matter that Jeff Gannon may have been a gay hooker named James Guckert with a $20,000 defaulted court judgment against him? So he somehow got a job lobbing softball questions to the White House. Big deal. If he was already a prostitute, why not be one in the White House briefing room as well?

This is the Conservative Republican Bush White House we're talking about. It's looking increasingly like they made a decision to allow a hooker to ask the President of the United States questions. They made a decision to give a man with an alias and no journalistic experience access to the West Wing of the White House on a "daily basis." They reportedly made a decision to give him - one of only six - access to documents, or information in those documents, that exposed a clandestine CIA operative. Say what you will about Monika Lewinsky - a tasteless episode, "inappropriate," whatever. Monika wasn't a gay prostitute running around the West Wing. What kind of leadership would let prostitutes roam the halls of the West Wing? What kind of war-time leadership can't find the same information that took bloggers only days to find?

None of this is by accident.

Someone had to make a decision to let all this happen. Who? Someone committed a crime in exposing Valerie Plame and now it appears a gay hooker may be right in the middle of all of it? Who?

"Who in the White House is at the center of all of this?

Who allowed this to go on in the People's House?

Who committed the crime of exposing Valerie Plame?

Jeff Gannon has the answers to these questions, and boy we know he loves to talk."

10. Apparently, Guckert was a male prostitute and appears in a fair
number of pornographic photos.

Just what I was afraid of, to be honest. Guckert isn't news. If there's no concrete evidence that he's directly tied to the White House in some way, then all this background info on Guckert doesn't matter at all.

I'd love to be proven wrong, but I really don't see how Guckert's sexual background is news.

77. Well it's news to us but let's see the degree to which the MSM will
investigate this thing. There are just so many questions here that have gone completely unanswered and it will be quite interesting to me to see the degree to which this angle is ignored by the MSM. They were all willing to get into Clinton's sex life but aren't apparently interested in investigating why a male prostitute was allowed access to the White House and given daily press credentials when he was in no way a member of any legitimate press organization.

via the WH press corp, that's cause for a federal investigation. And that certainly is news.

Can you imagine if he had a relationship with someone in the White House (say the press secretary for example) and he blackmailed him to get a press pass without proper background checks?

Would that be news? Of course nothing has been found yet. This story is just beginning and the AmericaBlog story is just another chapter leading towards the final epilog.

91. Highlights
The fucker (yeah...apt) was/is a partime-Marine male hooker with fake WH press credentials who got access to CIA files on Valerie Plame and got special treatment at press converences because he was a shill for GOPUSA.

As Arivosis says, it ain't the hooking...it's the access. How and why does a guy who is not a bonafide journalist but whose mentor is Morton Blackwell (a Rove associate) get such high-level access? If his hooking got him into the White House, shame on them. But why did he get access at all? Why is the WH using plants? Why do they need to embed fake journalists in their own organization as shills and spies?

12. It is kind of a letdown, but still interesting. Exposes lies told on CNN
WOLF BLITZER: Because one of the things, as you know, that were said is that you had some sexually explicit Web sites that you were working on. I don't understand what that is, but maybe you could explain that.

JEFF GANNON: Well, several years ago, before I came to Washington, I had registered various domain names for a private client. I was doing Web site development. Those sites were never hosted. There's -- nothing ever went up on them. And the client went on to do something else. - CNN, 2/10/05

Americablog has apparently found ample evidence that this is outright bullshit. The blog's conclusion (posted in a post above) gives a good summation as to why this development is more than just gossip fodder.

17. We did not have confirmation he was a male hooker
we do now.

so the REAL questions are these:

"How did a male prostitue gain daily access to be within 20 feet of the president?"

"Why was a male prostitute given access to classified CIA emmos and who gave the male prostitute that access?"

But right now it's still too easy for the WH to distance itself -- "well, that was his **past**"

As you know they have a history of excusing their own past behavior.

I'm just disappointed it wasn't about the Plame memos -- or a nice big check from Rove -- or secret meetings with McClellan...

70. Well
I think I can predict how this is going to turn out. A prostitute, while embarrassing, is not a security risk.

Additonally, I don't think the question "how did he get that close to the POTUS" will get legs. Lots of people get close to the POTUS w/o background checks, only on-scene security checks. Think of campaign rallies, inaugural balls, speeches, etc.

Could be wrong, but this is my prediction for whatever it's worth.

If this ends up only being about him being a phony reporter, I predict it's dead in the water except for Gannon's career.
If this ends up being about having access to classified material, and that can be proven, then of course THAT would be a huge breach.

(Sorry, I probably wasn't very clear in making my prediction.)

155. Honestly. They did a better job of vetting likely protesters in Fargo...
... just a few weeks ago. They had a "blacklist" made up of people who could not receive tickets to Bush's Social Security-Palooza tour.

They were expert at vetting crowds and keeping out potential disruptors during the 2004 Election. Their accuracy and precision was terrifying.

"Jeff Gannon" was a man who was owed a few favors in Washington, if you ask me. He wasn't vetted, he was passed along through an old-boy network, and they swore he'd do the bidding of his friends and masters. There's much more to this story, and it's as salacious as it is dramatic. And frightening.

At my company for a permament badge I had to go through the following qualifications including: Interview & References to get the job, Credit Check, Drug Test, FBI Background Check (I work for a financial company), finger printed and photographed. After passing all those steps I now have a permament badge to keep until I leave the company.

However, if you wanted to visit me at work you just need a drivers license and a contact of who you are meeting in the company. Mind you I still have to come claim you at the front desk but no other additional security is required.

Guckert was getting day passes and from what I read - anyone could get a day pass: Visitors who want to watch a press conference, Out of Town reporters in for a specific event and Military Gay Protitutes

107. Yep... just like WMD.
Incompetence runs wild over there -- but they just shake it off, blame someone else.

What are they going to say this time? "Someone in the secret service clearly wasn't doing their job. Must purge the agency." Or something along those lines. "Oversight," "bad intelligence," blah blah blah.

I'm not old enough to be this cynical, but the Bushies have aged me.

150. Why would you think it's incompetence?
They're incompetent at planning war -- but that's because they're delusional.

Letting Gannon in was NOT an "incompetent" decision, it was an entirely lucid decision. They had as much information about him as they wanted -- might have been the whole thing (full monty, as it were), might have been a lot less. But they had all that they wanted.

157. You're right -- "incompetence" is a poor choice of words.
"Deliberate actions dressed up like incompetence" is what I meant -- I know they hired Gannon on purpose, certainly with full knowledge of his background... but they have a way of placing the blame on "mistakes" made by some lower agency. (CIA)

My point is that is has been very easy for them to wriggle out of these situations by claiming that they're innocent mistakes, and no one seems to call them on it.

(The more one ponders this story, the more bizarre it seems. I see two possible scenarios: either they took him into the press pool knowing his background, but were arrogant enough to think that no one would bother to check (having a plant in there was too good to pass up)... or the web is far more tangled, and there is some kind of blackmail going on, and favors, and God know's what. Perhaps having information about the prostitution was a way of making him stay quiet about the presswhoring (surely he was being paid a LOT for that), or else maybe Gannon has info on someone and the press pass was a bribe to keep him quiet about that. Hope we find out...)

What would be really useful is if a whistleblower comes forward and says, "Hey, security was great. Guckert got a pass because a high ranking official intervened in an unusual manner."

But we don't have that yet. AmericaBlog fleshes the story out, but it didn't take the story into the White House Staff.

I am disapponted though, this is stuff most of us figured we probably already knew about this guy. It's "sexy" but not damning in the sense of proving shrubco's crookedness in using this guy as a fake propaganda tool.

The only bright spot as I see it is the possibility of giving this story enough legs for more people to "get" the real implications of this guy being in the WH press gaggle.

An actual prostitute whoring for shrubco in the press gaggle. A little irony is good for the blood, is it not?

19. The questions asked at the end of the story are...
the important ones, imo. "Gannon" would have been thoroughly investigated by the Secret Service when he applied to have access to the White House yet he was passed. Why and by whom? "Gannon" outright lied to Blitzer, will Blitzer follow up on this?

What I will be watching for if even one, just one, WH reporter asks simple Scottie about the access after a Secret Service investigation is how fast Scottie scuttles away from "Gannon" instead of validating him.

Was it worth the wait for the story, I think so! Do I wish the invoices had been signed by Rove, you bet.

I keep remembering Watergate unfolded from a third-rate burglary and it was due to the cover up, with the fast and furious cleansing of sites after "Gannon" had been indentified as Guckert, I smell cover up at levels higher than "Gannon" or even GOPUSA.

109. That 1989 gay prostitution ring story is a must-read.
Edited on Mon Feb-14-05 04:40 PM by Nothing Without Hope
I wonder what ever happened to that story? From the text of the newspaper story linked to in deutsey's post, there was already a highly placed administration official working to "derail the investigation" at the time this article was published. It seems to have been fairly effectively silenced.

Here are several juicy paragraphs from the story at that link, transcribed from the image of the newspaper page:

(From The Washington Times, June 29, 1989)

A homosexual prostitution ring is under investigation by federal and District authorities and includes among its clients key officials of the Reagan and Bush administrations, military officers, congressional aides and US and foreign businessmen with close social ties to Washington’s political elite, documents obtained by the Washington Times reveal.

One of the ring’s high-profile clients was so well-connected, in fact, that he could arrange a middle-of-the-night tour of the White House for his friends on Sunday, July 3, of last year. Among the six persons on the extraordinary 1 AM tour were two male prostitutes.

(snip)

Because "closet" homosexuals in government service can easily be "turned" through blackmail for espionage purposes, Gen., Graham said, "we have always in intelligence tried very hard not to be giving classified information to known homosexuals."

(snip)

"Henry Vinson said a high-level official is going to try to block the investigation and may succeed," said Mr. Balach, the labor secretary’s liaison to the White House. Mr. Vinson said he believes a highly placed federal official, whom he would not name, is working to derail the investigation, but he would not elaborate.

(snip)

So how is it the White House doesn't know about the tax evasion stuff.

This is too funny, they called him by an alias in order to avoid anyone digging up the tax evasion suit (and who knows what else) and instead, what people dug up was a hell of a lot worse than tax evasion. Oopsie. LOL. One of those days when it's good to be alive.

108. I agree that your questions represent the real story, but...
The fact that the M$M, who monitors blogs, has reported that the Gannon story peaked today on blogs and is one of the main stories being talked about it, is important.

Today's news may not be the big news, but it is helping to keep this issue highlighted. Let's hope it leads to finding out WHO hired this gay prostitute and whether or not he was paid, as well as your other questions.

CNN is doing a week long segment on blogs and so far they have done a fairly good job of it. They reported how blogs have broken several stories and that the M$M is reporting on stories AFTER the blogs report on them.

Blogs are gaining a lot of power and momentum. At this point, I think we can afford to be a little amateur. ;)

I hired Jeff last winter when I was in Philadelphia on business. I was so pleased with the experience that I recently had him travel with me on a weekend trip to North Carolina. I am an active duty senior officer in the US Army. Discretion is of utmost importance to me. Jeff understands that because of his Marine background. He has so many talents besides the bedroom, it was a great experience for me. He is all-man, athletic and self-assured. Great body, he helped me work out twice, one time on base. The sex was great, he's a hard core top, verbal and strong, never romantic, but not mean. But there was so much more. He is intelligent, but would not want me to tell you that and very interesting. Being military also, we had much in common. I feel completely at ease that my secret is safe with him.

It's more important to show Gannon was a paid propaganda plant and was given certain memos and access than to just show he was a gay prostitute.

I hope they keep digging because Gannon looks to be pretty sloppy. He likely has left some other trail. Too bad we can't see what deposits were made into his bank account.

I hope whoever arranged for him to be in the WH press corps is shitting bricks RIGHT FUCKING NOW, worried that they are next to go down.

There is no way the Secret Service gave him the standard clearance. SOMEONE bypassed the clearance or overrode it. WHO?????

46. So, let me get this straight
1) Several non-criminally inclined citizens were refused access to the pResident and Vice pResident during the campaign, roughed up and even arrested simply because they dared to be of a different political party, wore a t-shirt with an opposing view, sported a pin for the opposing candidate or otherwise showed their disenchantment with the Bush* administration.

2) A criminally inclined individual was either not checked before being given personal access to the pResident and the entire WH staff or was given a pass on earlier criminal activity and given personal access.

3) Not one person in the Bush* administration has suffered punishment for the HUGE intelligence failures of Sept. 11th when thousands of Americans lost their lives. Still, we were told to trust that this administration was the only on that could protect us. Yet, this administration provided sensitive CIA information to someone who was known as a criminal?

It is time for Jeff to be arrested for his crimes. Here's hoping he is offered a deal in exchange for what he knows about the Plame investigation. It is also time for the Bush* administration to be held accountable. Who was responsible for this person's background check? Who provided this person with the CIA documents?

Why is the Bush* administration scared of interacting with completely innocent US citizens, yet more than happy to consort with a known criminal?

OK, my guess is that lobbing softballs on TV was not the ONLY job "Jeff Gannon" was doing for these people. They probably gave him that as a perk, to make him feel, you know, less like a prostitute. Or was that more like a prostitute?

I've always said that some public-spirited young man should go down to DC and earn his country's undying gratitude by being caught in a compromising position with Karl Rove. Maybe, unwittingly, "Jeff Gannon" is that man. Not so public-spirited, nor young; but really, when you consider how Rove micromanages things down there, you figure he's got to have known about "Jeff Gannon" and his 8", cut cannon.

Man. Reading about Monica was bad enough. Imagining Karl Rove in flagrante delicto is gonna give me nightmares.

65. Don't know Plaid...but maybe he was a "plant."
Someone had to know his background. He says FBI talked to him for 90 minutes about Plame...but then he seems to be a liar. Still if WaPo said Talon News was subpoened before a Grand Jury and Gannon/Gurket says no...who is telling the truth.

We gotta figure the FBI knew his past...that makes it even more interesting. Who really planted Gannon told him to use a fake name but knew that eventually he would be outed. For all we know "Kossacks" got some help from folks they weren't aware of.. Did our Military plant him? Did the FBI plant him....knowing he would be outed or did he blackmail his way in like many DU'ers think and this goes to Mehlman.

Where are Issikoff and Drudge on this one...it's kinda quiet there.

Will be interesting to see how this one plays out.... We always said it would have to be "Sex" to bring Chimp down. Now, we have to tie this to
the Reagan/Poppy story about the "Military Escorts" in the White House...before the MSM buries it under some cover.

57. We have to keep this kicked
It may distasteful, but that's not the point. How Guckert made his living is his business. When he stepped into the public arena and got daily press passes for the WH under an assumed name, then that became the peoples' business. He has lied repeatedly, and the same treatment CBS got for shoddy reporting should be applied to Talon News, Guckert and any one in the WH that planted these stories and classified documents with Guckert.

The sex part is the carrot, it's the only way news media get excited about a story. It shows his hypocrisy and that he's obviously lied (To Wolf Blizter) and anyone who heard any of his interviews. Why should we believe that he didn't lie to get his press passes? His hidden life is being exposed, because he put it out there, and challenged people to come after him since he was hiding in plain site. Well he got what he wanted.

There is more to this story than his escort service and his being a whore. I do think that he may have intimate connections with other people higher up. It makes no sense that someone just coincidentally let him see or gave him the information on the classified document in the Valerie Plame operative outing.

Keep digging. Great work John at AmericaBlog

The best ways (and easiest) to get info in the spy biz is via sex or money. It is highly possible to have a WH connection, get info and spread it for money or political intrigue or personal gain. As my police friends would say (and FBI SHOULD SAY).....JG is certainly a person of interest. This is the stuff that extortion is made of.

83. The arrogant stupidity is what strikes me first
Why did the WH believe this would not come out? I can't see how it could do them any good, so it looks like they were so sure of their ability to suppress or distort anything in the corporate media, they just didn't give a damn.

I am still wary of this story, wondering if it could somehow be a plant designed to smear "liberal bloggers." Not clear to me how this could be, but it's something that should certainly be kept in mind at all times. For one thing, people making statements connecting "Gannon" in an intimate capacity with the (p)resident would be extremely explosive if taken out of context.

It's just so stupid, I keep thinking there's some kind of a trap here. Are the criminals in this administration really THAT certain that they can do absolutely anything and not be called on it? Perhaps, but this is really "over the top," so to speak.

Sorry, but have you been paying attention for the last four years???This administration has done nothing BUT over-the-top-damn-the-consequences actions and not been called on it by the MSM!! I mean look at it all -- bogus WMD claims, an illegal invasion of a country, secret spy and intel units in the Pentagon, sanctioned torture of POWs, election fraud -- they haven't given a rat's ass about keeping anything a secret or what could happen as a result.

or it is some kind of deliberate cover or trap. It's not obvious to me what kind of a trap or "legend" this guy could represent, but it's a possibility we need to keep in mind.

You're right, the corporate media has been this administration's rug to walk on on every point. I was suprised Wolfie even raised the "Gannon" issue on his show, because by being caught accepting brazen lies with nonexistent background research Blitzer has put himself in an embarrassing position. Maybe somebody had reassured him that there was no way the truth could possibly get out.

The "stupidity" angle is so glaring that my first thought was to wonder if the blivet** his own self is "Gannon's" client and is the one that ordered security clearance procedures waived. Stupidity R Us, that's this WH all right, most of all the (p)resident.

Let's hope that investigation will turn up a trail that leads to high places. SOMEBODY got him past security, got him press credentials, fed him propaganda and questions, and showed him the Plame material.

If Jimmy-Jeff really knows some damaging things about WH powers, he'd better worry about a lot more scary things than his fantasies of being trailed to church by bloggers. Those guys don't let little things like murder get in their way.

100. Why the name change...
One thing that I am wondering about is why and when he started using the name "Jeff Gannon". On the "U.S.Male Corp" site, he is named as "Jeff Bulldog" or "Jeff", but why use that same "Jeff" name in the White House press room? And *why* was his lame-ass questioning allowed to go on unquestioned by so many for so long? The fact that he had to ask a ridiculous "question" that was such an over-the-top, blatant, suck-up query that managed to both kiss the presidents ass (weak) and "slam" the democrats (very weak) just goes to show that our press corps either turned a blind eye to what was going on or couldn't put 2 and 2 together. Granted, it's their job to cover the president and the press secretary and not each other, but you'd think that somebody in a room of investigative journalists would smell something not quite...right. And then to top it all off he resigned for the good of his family. Yeah right, he didn't want the kids to know that daddy's... well, a "daddy". Then why does he pimp himself out to millions on the web? Something's not right and we can't trust the MSM to get to the core of it. That would be like trusting Blivet* to do the right thing in Iran/N. Korea/wherever the hell that picture was taken.

105. There are McClellan accusations.
I'm at work, so I don't know if anyone has posted about this or not.

Check it out:

Rawstory is working on the Scott McClellan angle, intimating that perhaps Mr. McClellan and Mr. Gannon may have had a relationship.
Sources have intimated possible relationships with members of the White House staff.

RAW STORY has been told that the White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan visited a gay bar in Austin, Texas, on March 19, 1995. The date was placed exactly as a local memorial service was held on the same day.

The source, who would only comment on condition of anonymity, reserved comment on whether McClellan was actually gay, but said he was frequently seen at gay clubs. Another source also confirmed this account.

“He was often seen in gay clubs in Austin, Texas and was comfortable being there,” the Texan said. “He’s been seen in places that normal people who are looking for heterosexual relationships are not seen alone.”

There's a few things The Correction is curious about. If this indeed is true, how did the FBI miss this point when they investigated him for his press credentials? Is it really possible that bloggers are better investigators than the FBI?

This author is of the opinion that Mr. Gannon's past was known to someone in the White House. Could this be the work of a modern-day Deep Throat (sorry, no pun intended) working quietly behind the scenes to bring this administration down? It seems a possibility.

Jeff Gannon'': Meet Karl Rove, via Bobby Eberle

In 1998, Bobby was selected as one of only 96 people in Texas to serve on the Board of Directors of the Texas Lyceum Association. This organization, which has included in its membership such notable Texas leaders as President George W. Bush, Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, and Governor Rick Perry, is comprised of political and civic leaders under the age of forty. Also in 1998, Bobby was named to Outstanding Young Men of America.

McClellan also said he did not believe Bush knew Bobby Eberle, the owner of GOPUSA.com and Talon News, despite the fact that Eberle is a Texas Republican activist and was a delegate to the 2000 GOP convention.

What has happened is that people are buying into Gannon's legend, or "cover." It was set up with a bit of odd sex to distract attention from who he actually is, should he get caught. Rove did not actually create the cover, of course. This is straight from the VP's secret intelligence operation detailed in Wilson's book.

The entire premise of The Horse has been completely, utterly, absolutely vindicated in every way possible.

Now the dedicated bloggers chase down every one of Gannon's clients they can, and we'll start to see the Behemoth in full form. So he's fucking senior military staff, probably Scott McClellan, and Jesus Only Knows who all else. How high does it go? How deep does it go?

One way to bring these bastards down, unfortunately, is to expose them as closet cases. There's a certain poetic justice to hoisting them on their own petard, but IMHO it's a sad statement about our society that this is a petard at all.

I guess if I had one thing to say about this story it would be this: The truth is out there and we all need to be diligent about seeking it out. What if there is absolutely no connection between Gannon and the WH (as implausible as that seems)? This story will soon die out. But, this bit of truth can hopefully send others onto the right trail. As much as we all hate the MSM it still plays an important role in other peoples lives, therefore it is still a viable source of information. We all have to get this and any other information that can play a role in the publics decision making into the MSM. If not, the great reporting by Americablog is all for naught.

148. This whole story is just too weird.
I've seen the clips of some of the "questions" this guy asked. Some of them were completely, ridiculously, over the top and obvious. They wouldn't have been out of place in a SNL parody.

Think about it. What in God's name was the purpose? Did someone in the Whitehouse actually believe that this guy and his ludicrous "questions" were somehow helpful to the administration? Did they feel that it was so helpful that it was worth the risk of exposure? Why, especially after the election was over, did they even feel that they needed this kind of help?

I can think of a few explanations.

1: It could be that he's just some guy who managed to repeatedly talk his way into possession of daily press passes, and someone at the Whitehouse is simply incompetent. I think that this possibility can be pretty safely dismissed outright. I can't believe that the security is that lax.

2: Maybe it was a calculated decision by people in the administration intended to steer the press conferences in desired directions. But if this was the case, I would think that they would have chosen their man much more carefully and vetted him thoroughly. I know that these people are famously clumsy with their lies, but I can't believe they would have done it this poorly.

3: It could be some kind of convoluted Rovian trap or misdirection but I can't quite see how. If this was the case I would think it would be all over corporate media, especially Faux.

4: The access could have been obtained as payback for favors (probably sexual). The problem with this is that there are probably less risky ways to pay back whatever was owed. Simply paying the guy's going rate, for example.

5: Maybe Guckert was romantically involved with someone in the adminstration and was given access because of that. I can't really dismiss this one.

6: It could have been blackmail (probably sexual). Guckert decided that he wanted a career as a journalist and he had something on someone in the administration. I also can't dismiss this one. In fact my gut tells me that this is the most likely.
