The story of Jeff....
I went to Americablog to check out the upcoming scandal of Jeff(?) Gannon/Gueckert. As I am sure, many others were waiting with baited breath to see what was developing in the story.

So - he is a hooker. A gay hooker at that. The background work done at Americablog seems complete and appears to be solid reporting/journalism....but leaves out the answer to a fundamental question - why would the White House allow a gay, conservative, hooker to crawl into the White House Press Corps in the first place? Surely, they could find someone with a more acceptable background to be a stooge to their policies and throw softball/save us questions to McClellan? Why Jeff? Why him?

I agree with Americablog in that the White House knew absolutely who they were allowing in. They knew it all. And so the scandal always threatened.

At the end of the day, it occurs to me that this is PRECISELY why they chose him over others. So, let's not focus on the sordid details of his part time work. Instead, methinks we should focus on why the White House consistantly allies itself with the criminal minds, with the depraved, with the scum of the earth. Like minds are attracted to each other, and little snippets as these are good leverage for Rove to keep the troops in line so to speak.

The simple fact that this man can be bought - literally for a couple hundred bucks an hour makes one realize why the White House would find him so appealling. He is easy, cheap, and with no moral compass whatsoever. Of course the White House would give him access.

That is my take on the story. Thoughts anyone else?

1. They are gonna let the poor fucker take the blame for Plame. Simple...
Plus it gives the RW ammunition to hate gays more. They were hoodwinked by a liberal Gay man posing as a wholesome conservative.

Gays bad.
Gays treasonous.
Gays bad in the military see.
Gays out CIA agents.

I think this will backfire on us...web blogger folk.

3. He CAN'T take the blame for Plame.
Unless he was also a CIA agent with approved knowledge of Valerie Plame's NOC status, in ADDITION to being a male hooker and faux reporter.

6. Bingo...
someone has to be the fall guy if this Plame thing ever gets cooking.
And who is the easiest to set up == some guy with a wife and a family and a squeaky clean background? Or a gay escort with this sordid past and naked pictures on the Internet(s)?
Sure, the clean, family guy could be threatened, but chances are it would be a whole lot harder to make the case against him.
I think Karl Rove found his perfect patsy, and Guckert or Gannon or whatever the hell he calls himself was only too willing to be carried along. I mean, he's been handed the keys to the kingdom here, and thinking he's now part of this elite circle of Bushites.

Was allowed into the White House Press Corps versus the outing of Valerie Plame?

8. follow the money
YOu are right, I think, about the reasons for the choice of Gannon. And the only way this is going to bust open in a way we think it should is to follow the money. Who paid him? Who paid for talon news to be set up (I still can't hear that name without thinking of John Asscroft singing "Let the Eagle Soar")? The bull about a "conservative Republican" is just that -- bull. The money trail, if it can be sniffed out, will lead to the WH.

2. "Cheap, easy, no moral compass"
He's the perfect WH "journalist." You make a good point.

Perhaps I'm hoping too hard for the thing that will bring the WH down -- and to me this still isn't that thing (it could well evolve that way).

But one day it will make an excellent chapter in the book about this administration.

4. I think that it's Mr. Hugh Bris at work.
They are not stupid at the WH. If you want a ringer in the press room, you get someone who will not attract scads of controversy, better yet, you get a CM (corporate media) journalist and have him do it in a more subtle way. This was pure hubris, the arrogance of too much power with no real struggle. The WH folks just go out and steal things, elections, countries, the whole nine yards. Nobody stops them, they are rarely exposed for more than a 20 minute news cycle, and they are smart enough to notice this. I suspect that "Gannon" was in place because they have total contempt for America: the press, the politicians, the people, the civic and military leaders.

It is the same type of logic that Bush the 1st used when he appointed Clarence Thomas. Ultimately, this is one of the most profoundly cynical moves in American history -- pick a totally incompetent minority member for a job that is based on competence and watch the guy get confirmed through Democratic and minority support. Gannon is just a hyper extension of that type of contemptuous thinking.

9. It is stunning isn't it. They are the most devious despicable cynical
group of people that have ever had power in this country.
I keep thinking they can't top some of the things that they have done or that they cannot surprise me but this really takes the cake..for now..

10. The key to Guckert is that he is a piece of trash than can be thrown away
Toilet paper is maybe a better analogy. Use him for a dirty job and throw him away.
