So we are sending 18 robots, controlled by a soldier who would be withing 1,000 meters of the bot. At present he would be using something like a laptop to control it, but plans are under development for gameboy style controls and a virtual reality helmet to see what the bot's cameras are seeing.

The bots cost about $200,000 which is cheap as military toys go, and looks to be cost effective too.

These bots are assembled from already existing systems. The next generation of bots, designed from scratch as battle robots, and are already in prototype testing.
