Why was Jeff Gannon/James Guckert know by his sex industry name at the WH?
Some thoughts on Gannon/Guckert and McClellan

McClellan Tells E&P He Didn't Know Guckert Used Fake Name For Nearly Two Years

Former Talon News reporter James D. Guckert got to ask questions at Whtie House press briefings for nearly two years but White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan did not know the controversial reporter was using an alias until the past few weeks, he told E&P Monday.
<snip>

McClellan on the press pass:

"White House press secretary Scott McClellan said Guckert did not have a regular White House press pass but was cleared on a day-by-day basis to attend briefings and used his real name."
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/02/10/politics/main673000.shtml

Guckert/Gannon on his daily pass:

Each day that he wanted access, Gannon said, he would submit his real name — James Guckert — and other identifying information to be cleared in.
<snip>
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/politics/2002176914_webreporter10.html

Why then when when Mr. McClellan called on him did he call him Jeff (his sex industry name) and not James (his given name)?

Was it a slip of the tongue because he knew him as Jeff first? No, it can’t be that. He goes on to say in the E&P article above:

When asked if Guckert's link to several sex Web sites should have had an effect on his getting credentials, McClellan said, "I don't think it is my place to express my personal opinion." But, he added, "I wasn't aware of any of that."

If he wasn’t aware of any of “that” he couldn’t know that Jeff was his sex industry name. Why then did he not call on him by the name that his daily pass was issued under (James)?

Mr. McClellan is talking in circles. I want to know why Jeff/James was known by his sex industry name at the White House.

4. Please note that background checks were on Guckert, not "Gannon"
Edited on Mon Feb-14-05 05:19 PM by chookie
A background check of "Jeff Gannon" might have revealed this man as an ex-Marine who sold himself for sex, soliciting clients by posting obscene pictures of himself on the internet.

Uh, did the FBI/Secret Service not think to research his alias? Dumb, or did they do as they were instructed by someone within the WH?

This raises the question: did someone advise him to do so? Or was he at least smart enough to know that a background check on his alias would lead people to know he was a whore?

6. Exactly, his background check was as James Guckert
How did he come to be called on by his sex industry name (Jeff)? Why was it even used at all? Since it was known by the WH why was it not investigated, too?

15. they had to use an alias. tax evasion. public info.
they knew the questions were going to raise eyebrows, being what they were, so they thought they'd outsmarted us. Little did they know...

Or they thought the porn was on the other internet.

13. Here is the real question. Jimmy-Jeff was on the subpoena list
for the Plame investigation. Did the FBI question him? If so, did they ask him his name and did he respond "Jeff Gannon"? If so, it is a felony with up to 5 year sentence to lie to the FBI during an investigation. (Remember, Miss Martha is doing her 5 months at camp cupcake for this crime.)

Now, if he testified before the Plame grand jury and testified that his name was Jeff Gannon and he is a journalist working for Talon News, he would seem that he perjured himself!

Hmmmmm! Wonder what Jimmy-Jeff said!

17. I've wondered about that also.
It does put J/J in a situation if he used his Jeff Gannon identity.

What a tangled web this is becoming.

18. Do you think he changed to Gannon because it sounds more
powerful? Gannon = Cannon

I mean as a macho, military stud, did the name Gurkett sound to much like gerkin?

21. I'm sure he wouldn't want to be associated with a gerkin.
That would be bad for the escort business. Gannon the Cannon, I could see him liking that.

Wonder if the WH will ever be able to explain the presence of the gerkin?

19. damn. can you get security clearance with a tax evasion conviction?
He'd have to have clearance to get that CIA memo. This is fucking unreal.

I'll say it again. Fucking Unreal.

Expect the right to go totally silent now and be all "Gannon who?". This is what they did to David Brock when Brock came over to the light. They didn't know from him or about him.

Wingnuts know now america loves porn, so they know everyone'll be on their computers downloading the 'real' Gannon Cannon.

I think they will try to bury this.

23. I don't think you can get security clearance if you are a prostitute!
Gannon the Cannon or Gerkett the gerkin better find a safehouse somewhere. He is definitely becoming a problem for the admin. No small planes. I betcha he sleeps with smith and wesson now!

29. The fact that he has kept doing interviews goes to show
that he has no sense at all. You know that the Administration is saying, shut up already! He's helping to keep the story alive by trying to play the victim card. This is something they want to fall off of the radar.

30. They have controlled the message for so long now, they believe
they can contain this message. The only problem is, the bulldog story has too much life, too many veins allowing the blood to flow into its heart to keep it alive - prostitution, porn, homosexuality, fake reporter, fake news agency owned by repukes, plame, WH access.

I do not know if they will be able to contain this one.

25. They will try to bury this
Let's just hope that in the process they keep digging their hole deeper.

I don't know how they are going to explain all of this away. They let a man who worked in the sex industry as an "escort" with a tax evasion conviction on his record, who worked for a questionable news source have a press pass and view a CIA memo.

How do you spin that to make it look good?

27. Was teh tax evasion under Guckert?
Also, I was thinking that the FBI/ Secret Service may not have known about the alias until after the fact.

How can you trust a journalist to report the truth if they themselves hide under a fake name?

26. There is a male model named Jeff Gannon
or at least he goes by that name.

Maybe Jimmy is fixated and couldn't come up with another identity.

Sure was stupid.
