W Post story on the debate

This was on Page 1. Note that there is no mention of the wingnut commentary after the show--the focus is on the candidates, as it should be. The Dems used the odd opportunity to get their message out well. I would imagine that opinions here will differ about the content of the story, though.

1. Thanks, I Wanted the Name

of the asshole (Ed GORDON) who taunted KERRY. Previously, I had a good impression of him as the one who smoothly interviewed LOTT during his troubles and let him hang himself. But he was snarky last night. First he asked KERRY (whether he would vote no on the 87 bill?). Then he said he would repeat the question for GRAHAM to see whether he would get an unambiguous answer, and when the audience groaned, he quickly said oh-this-isn't-a-criticism---------oh, no. Then he did another dirty on KERRY later. Besides that, he "participated" in the debate, "responding" with cute banter with the candidates.

2. Kerry was handicapped by jumping onboard with Joe

"Strategists for Kerry have said that as long as someone is attacking Dean, he can concentrate on other things in the debate."

But he couldn't get away with hiding behind Joe because Kerry's position was mentioned as well during the course of the debate last night and when Dean countered Lieberman, Kerry was also the target.

Just goes to show you how far removed these beltway bozos are from the base.
