Why did Clinton Scandals blow up while Bush scandals blow over?
Edited on Mon Feb-14-05 08:40 PM by Walt Starr
It's simple, my friends. We, the liberals, have failed to learn from history.

The reichwingnuts latched onto anything and everything with Clinton and pounded and pounded and pounded unrelentlessly day and night. They never LET it blow over until it eventually blew up.

Whitewater started getting pounded on day and night before Clinton even took office. Eventually, it blew up into Zippergate.

That's our problem. We give up and stop pounding the issues.

It's time to start bringing it ALL back up and throwing it ALL into the MSM faces and pound the living shit out of every last bit of the crap these bastards have been getting away with for more than four years!

POUND THE SHIT OUT OF THESE BASTARDS! THAT'S WHAT THEY DID TO CLINTON AND IT'S THE ONLY WAY WE TAKE DOWN BUSH!!!!

MANGATE DIES WHEN WE LET IT DIE!!!

1. I think its because we don't control congress.
Edited on Mon Feb-14-05 08:35 PM by Heaven and Earth
So we can't launch all kinds of nifty investigations that get a lot of press, and force people to take these things seriously

3. The Republicans were not the majority party throughout all of
Clinton's terms. They won the house in 1994 but they had been on Clinton's case from the time he took office. The Democrats were all too willing to roll over and give Bush anything he wanted (including war) in the name of "healing" following the disputed 2000 election.

I hope that with Howard Dean at the helm of the Democratic party a renewed willingness to FIGHT the right-wing attack machine will be made manifest.

26. It was just noise until they held Congress.
There are no congressional hearings to report on and no special counsel. Control of Congress is really the key to investigations.

21. We don't HAVE to control Congress
all it would take are some Dem senators and/or representatives to start yelling about this stuff (metaphorically speaking) to get the MSM to pay attention.

Then when they try to let it die, WE DON'T LET THEM.

4. Freedom of speech in the media was squashed pretty quickly in 2001.
Clinton allowed people to ask him questions. The repubs have also always had some sort of main stream media pounding out lies and excuses for them the minute the scandal started.

Democrats on the other hand seek truth and thus were pretty silent until the evidence was presented.

They are in bed with KKKarl Rove, askeered and/or afull of greed.

But history shows that evil tends to collapse on itself. I look for the cards to start slipping one by one...

13. So we start a grassroots campaign of writing literally thousands of letter
s daily to the MSM. Every day we highlight another issue.

That's what the Reichwingnuts did, and it worked!

We start holding our talking heads accountable. Start using the term "corporate media". Associate mediawhoredom with the Mangate issue.

The only reason the MSM is in the reichwingnut pockets is because they finally bought into the lie of there being a "liberal media bias".

6. The House
If we controlled the House, we could set up committees to look into all this crap ... and then the MSM would probably cover them. Senate would be nice, but it all really has to start in the House.

8. Good question. MSM is the answer, imho.
Doesn't matter what we have to say, really, when they can focus endlessly on Gore's sigh or Dean's scream.

That wall must come down.

9. So right! We cannot let
these things blow over.
We need more discipline - keep pushing on these stories through MSM until they are addressed.
Since the episode with Rather, MSM has become even more frightened so we have to keep with it even longer.
The RW never gives up.

10. My LTE was published today
asking why there is such a hullabaloo about the 60 Minutes program when everything they reported was true and backed up by other sources. Just the memos were in question. My next question was WHEN are heads going to roll and people fired for the lies that were printed about the Clintons, Al Gore? Why does that Judith Miller at the NY times who reported all Ahmed Chalabi's lies about WMD's still have her job? Of course I don't expect an answer or apology.

16. Last week, Joe Conason (on Al Franken's show) said
that the Clinton Administration gave reporters no reason to worry or fear that they would be punished or ignored when it came time to ask the President questions at press conferences. The Clinton Administration treated the press even-handedly and no favorites were played. Therefore, the press could heap bad stories on Clinton without fear of reprisal from the WH.

He said that the Bush Administration lets it be known that certain reporters are 'favorites' and will be called upon in press conferences because of the praise they heap on Bush, or that they put a nice White House spin on a story. Therefore, reporters think twice before they file a story that puts the Bush Administration in a bad light.

28. Its also the perks and who rides on AF1 or
the back-up press plane.

The highly overated and overpaid pressitutes are trying to preserve their traditional perks and will not do anything that would jeopardize the pecking order. KO excepted! The Fourth (Imperial) Estate does not serve the interests of the public and should be reminded by scathing letters to the powerpoint presenters, editors and producers that they are losing their power in addition to being woefully shoddy yellow corporate interest sychophants to perceived power.

Also, REFUSE to live by the MSM's definition of the "life of a story." Who CARES if they think it's over?

Don't LET it be over!!!!! I don't give a shit WHAT it's about, if it makes the bushies look back, pound it pound it pound it pound it and never let up.

20. that damn devil lib'rul media, that's why!
the rw dominance of media is the biggest issue relating to the future of this country.

until that's fixed, you'll never hear BBV reported- or Gannon covered in the depth it deserves, or dem candidates treated fairly

refine our message all we want, but if the media picks another one for us, we're fucked

25. Look guys I don't give a shit HOW repuke controlled the media is
(and it is...), I wouldn't give a shit if we only had three whole fucking Democrats in both houses of Congress, I'd STILL say scream and yell about this shit and act like a dog with a bone. NEVER LET IT GO.

That's exactly what they did. Ultimately, they got far less for their trouble (they were hoping Clinton would be run out of office before his second term was up) and the bush administration has FAR FAR FAR more dirty secrets than the Clinton one could have ever DREAMED of having.

So letters letters letters, emails, emails, emails, go get that bumper sticker printer paper at Office Depot like I did (it's white) and print off bumper stickers about what ever the issue is....act as one body (hard for us to do, but NOT impossible), make phone calls, tell everyone you know, remind people of it all the time, never lose a chance to bring it up, etc.

That's what I do.
