That article covers the "fake news" aspect of the story -- the planting of a phony journalist at White House press conferences to help Bush's people manipulate the coverage. It also mentions the sex aspect.

The Demopedia article doesn't describe Gannon's connection to the exposure of Valerie Plame in retaliation for her husband's criticism of the Yellowcake Forgery that Bush used to drum up support for invading Iraq. One of the DUers who's been following that aspect should add the information to the Demopedia article.

Jeff Gannon was NOT a journalist. He started a website/blog called Talon News In March 2003 and three weeks later he was given a (daily)Press Pass to the White House Press Room and to the Press Conferences.

Gannon has never attended Journalism school, but he DID attend a two-day workshop for the Media sponsored by Karl Rove associates prior to receiving his clearance for a daily press pass.

It seems that the journalists at the WH have their own committee that votes for who does or does not get a permanent, hard copy Press Pass and this committee rejected Jeff Gannon. Scott MClellan must have overridden that rejection and cleared Gannon for a daily pass.

Recognized journalists, some with Masters' Degrees in Journalism from Columbia University and extensive experience and connections at major news outlets, have applied and been turned down when requesting Press Passes to the White House.Why?

What could be the reason for Scott McClellan, Press Secretary, to hire Gannon or permit him to have a press pass while turning away tained and experienced journalists?

1. Plame memo - involves federal law breaking. Mr G appears to have inside knowledge to those who initiated the decision to break the law.

2. Mr G cannot be separated from his employer, Talon News/GOPUSA. It now appears that they may have written false stories about terror threats. Mr G's employer is quite connected to the Bush regime for about 30 years. Most recently, Mr G's employer facilitated and/or funded a smear campaign against Sen. Daschle and Sen. Kerry.

3. The wife of a person who is on the Board of Directors of GOPUSA is the Bush's Director of Personnel.

4. Talon News was set up on the internet within four days of Mr G being given his first White House Press Conference pass.

5. Mr. G. and Scott McLellan, the White House Press Secretary may have known each other previously.

6. It is obvious the White House set up a phoney journalist to ask opiniated and partisan questions just as they have set up and paid for phoney news articles, opinions, and guest expert appearances on tv and newspapers by other so-called journalists.

These are the people who said they would bring honor and integrity back to the White House in their suits and ties.

Granted, if there's a possibility of his client list becoming public, Guckert might just have an "accident" before he can be brought to trial. I imagine there's a number of folks who REALLY wouldn't care to be outed.

25. not sure but it should be a national security issue

As a person who was invited to meet an acting President, who had to go through a full 24 hour Secret Service review, still had my purse searched and went through a metal detector, I'm disgusted. My husband and I were working for a law enforcement agency at the time.
That was before Sept 11th. I hope Secret Service reviews everything Mr. Gannon had the privilege of obtaining. This is a national security issue and I want to know if Mr. Gannon had a security clearance ? What was it? Secret or Top Secret? I had a secret clearance back when I worked traffic for the USAF.

Little did I know all I had to do is post naked shots on the internet to by pass all those procedures.
