Good Lord!! Hannity says Kerry was NEVER in Vietnam
:eyes:

Just when I thought these morans couldn't get any worse:

HANNITY: Well, our good friend Ann Coulter actually did a little bit of investigative reporting and background. . Apparently, this guy -- how many of you know that Churchill meet with Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi? Did y'all know that? I got some new -- she writes in her column today. And then announced to his group, the American Indian movement, he had not requested arms from the Libyan government. I guess we ought to be happy about that. Um, he has been out there talking to people and telling people that he is an American Indian. Apparently that is not true by all accounts. He has referred to himself as a chief in a combat unit in Vietnam. Well, in addition to the absence of evidence about his Indian heritage, there is an absence of evidence, just like John Kerry, that he ever was in combat in Vietnam.

52. Exactly! I saw that interview with Canadian reporter, where Coulter tells
the Canadians they sent troops to Vietnam War...even though they didn't, and the Canadian reporter tells her REPEATEDLY they never did. She just arrogantly keeps telling him they did, he's wrong.

Problem IS, these people are so use to spinning the Truth, they honestly feel (as true Sociopaths) that they have a RIGHT to "write" Reality.

How dare they now say that Kerry was NEVER in combat! What next? That Gannon is a heterosexual Pulitzer Prize winning journalist? Ha!

150. Oh that was to refute Kerry's claim that he spent 2 tours in Nam
He counts the one where he was in the Gulf of Tonkin. He did disembark once to look around. O'Neill never did think that counted somehow.

But of course he's spent the second tour on the Mekong. That certainly must count.

But that's the distinction. Hey man, considering it was the Tonkin Resolution that got us truly started in Vietnam, one would think that being on a ship in the Gulf of Tonkin could count for something.

Idiot. Ann wasn't even saying that. She was saying Kerry's record is phony, like Ward's. Then Hannity here morphes it into something even worse, that he wasn't even there. Then how did he shoot the kid in the back Hannity?

What an ass. I'm somehow heartened to see the Freepers don't even like him for the most part. There's a meltdown thread in Freepertown right now because Hannity called them a childish fringe site that tends to eat its own. It's up to almost 2400 posts now. Good idea Sean. Insult your base.

That's all the people who watch the show and listen to his radio show, multiplied by the 5 days he's on. So, roughly that's about 13 million, divided by 10. It's really about 1.3 million people who are radar locked on him so that they can all share one brain.

117. Interesting........
I'm an Evangelical Christian, late 20s and I teach Bible lessons to youth (no lie) regularly. My uncle and two cousins are Baptist Pastors. God didn't tell any of us to vote for Bush. In fact, all of us were compelled to vote for Kerry because his positions on the whole were more compatable with the teachings of Jesus than Bush's.

For me it's important to listen to both sides, mostly so I know how to frame my positions in a way that is convincing to people on the right.

I'm convinced that fellow Christians are the only ones who will be able to get through to the pseudo-christians. Certainly, not being Christian myself, I don't think I speak the right language--I would probably get reactively tuned out. I wish I could listen in when you're talking to a RWer; I'll bet it's inspiring!

That description of my coworker is from a discussion we had...he really did say that god told him bush was the "right man for the job", he really did say research shows abstinence works, when I suggested he check plannedparenthood.com for facts concerning abstinence programs and results of global gag rule (increased death and disease in infants and pre and post-partum mothers, etc.) he actually closed his eyes, frowned and started shaking his head vigorously....

Well, anyway, obviously the two of you resemble each other in superficialities only. How anyone who claims to be Christian can look at bush and forget Christ's warning, "by their fruits shall you know them"--to me, that indicates Christ trying to teach his followers to use their own minds and perception to discern. To me it seems so easy to see the truth.

148. It's very true...........
that the people who will reach misguided Christians are in fact Christians representing the real teachings of Christ. Radio/TV preachers and public religious figures have done wonders misinterpreting the Bible or, at the very least cherry picking from it. After twenty plus years of this we have a strong fundamentalist presence in the country and millions are under their influence. What pains me most is that so many folks (I think) reject Christianity not on it's own merits, but because of these clowns who misrepresent it. If true Christianity was pro-war, pro-self interest, pro-rich, anti-environment, anti-racial equality, anti-women etc. then I'd reject it as well.

She's a farm girl from Wisconsin, driving a massive SUV adorned with the obligatory American flag and yellow ribbon. He's a loudmouth from Texas, driving a massive pickup truck adorned with the obligatory American flag, yellow ribbon, and B/C bumper sticker. They watch Fox religiously and in a matter of months, the guy went from bashing Bush's huge deficit and questioning why were were in Iraq, to actually WRITING on his truck the URL for "Scary Kerry." We're no longer on speaking terms since I gave them an armed forces enlistment form for her 14-year old son to consider. Two of my family members have served in the damn desert, her son can serve too (oh yeah, they're "living in sin").

41. Bullshit. Kerry was wounded 3 times and got 3 purple hearts from COMBAT
Edited on Tue Feb-15-05 05:53 PM by NewYorkerfromMass
There is no lack of evidence that Kerry was "IN COMBAT".
Kerry was wounded 3 times and they were not self inflicted.
If there is one thing we need to make clear, it is that Kerry was not only IN Vietnam, but he was in COMBAT there.

http://www.thehistorynet.com/ah/blkerryinvietnam/

Kerry opponent Robert E. Lambert's account:

Lambert, now 64, was a crew member on swift boat PCF-51 that day. The boat was commanded by Navy Lt. Larry Thurlow, a now-retired officer who questions why Kerry was awarded a Bronze star for bravery and a third Purple Heart for the March 13 incident.

"He and another officer now say we weren’t under fire at that time," Lambert said Wednesday afternoon. "Well, I sure was under the impression we were."

Lambert’s Bronze Star medal citation for the incident praises his courage under fire in the aftermath of a mine explosion that rocked another swift boat on that day 35 years ago.

"Anytime you are blown out of the water like that, they always follow that up with small arms fire," he said....

He was on a Swift Boat in Vietnam, facing fire from the enemy and the fact it was on water instead of land doesn't make a bit of difference.

51. What's your point?
At that specific time there was an alignment between the former
Head of State of Cambodia, Prince Norodom Sihanouk, and the Khmer Rouge-both were opposed to the coup of Lon Nol. US and South Vietnamese troops invaded Cambodia, without Lon Nol's knowledge or approval, in order to attack communist bases.

That was the Nixon-US policy to expand the war against the VC and part of that was to arm the local Cambodians against the VC.

I hope you weren't trying to smear Kerry with what the KR started doing years later. That kind of distortion,by false association, would be something the Republican propagandists Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh would do.

59. Ann Coulter also said Thomas Jefferson was never President
and Alexander Hamilton was. She said that on Larry King Live, and staggered both Larry and the other guest, Alan Dershowitz with the sheer stupidity of that statement.

KING: If then were now, they couldn't make a case against Thomas Jefferson.

DERSHOWITZ: No.

COULTER: He was never president.

...

COULTER: Well, I suppose that's the only reason we can talk about it. If he weren't caught, there's nothing we can do, but if I could just say again, I mean, on this Iran-Contra, that is precisely what impeachment is not for.

I believe the reason for this is because of the one impeachment of a president, of Alexander Hamilton, was over Hamilton's refusal to enforce an unconstitutional law, so Congress was accusing the president...

DERSHOWITZ: You've got the wrong president, Ann. Ann, you've got the wrong president. It wasn't Alexander Hamilton, it was Andrew Johnson.

COULTER: Sorry, sorry. He wasn't -- Alexander Hamilton wasn't impeached.

DERSHOWITZ: He was shot.
(Not to mention, Hamilton was never president.)

Nobody sees any problem with the misquote? It makes Hannity's ridiculous claim turn into a superduper ridiculous claim. I mean the wingers are going to bury themselves with lies. We OTOH need to be more precise in our truthfulness. It gives us the upper hand and robs them of the ability to argue semantics rather than substance.

We don't need to take the high ground when someone such as Hannity throws a gutterball. That's like playing baseball on a football field. There is no difference between "never served" and "never saw combat" when BOTH are inaccurate and even if he SAID "never saw combat" people HEARD "never served." There is FILM demonstrating he SAW combat.

102. It's never wrong to take the high ground.
And it usually pays in the end.

I'd deflate his statement on two points:

(1) It really doesn't SAY anything - It's just babble. It only gives impressions. OK for entertainment, but basically meaningless.

(2) What does he really MEAN? If he means Kerry was not in battle, there is proof he is wrong. And why come up with such a claim only now? If he means some of the evidence surrounding Kerry’s service seems to contradict other evidence, what does he think that proves? That’s the nature of evidence in the real world. If contradictory evidence concerning service is damning, then let’s talk Bush and ANG.

Both these can be advanced in reasonable tones using logic, let you take the high ground, and (even if someone is unconvinced either way) leave the impression you are thoughtful and honest, while perhaps the other guy is not.

101. I think you are correct.
We complain that the Republicans misquote us and willfully misinterpret what we say, yet too often we seem to gleefully do the same thing to them.

Let’s take it farther:

We complain that THEY are a party of hate, yet a poll here recently came up with about 75% of DU who say they literally HATED Republicans. Heck, even Dean sort-of said it, on-the-record in an interview.

We complain that the Repubs are bad for the country, but I see too many people fervently wishing for and gleefully celebrating national screw-ups and embarrassing international incidents because they think it improves our chances in the next election.

We need to keep our priorities straight. It’s hard to tell people you want what’s best for the country while being obviously happy when a national policy goes south, even when we can say “I told you so.”

If not, you seem to be implying I said something I did not, and calling me a conservative because of it.

Come to think of it, that's pretty close to what my original post was objecting to: I think we should criticize what was actually said, not alter or misinterpret it and criticize the new meaning.

If you think that makes me a conservative, please explain why.
If I am misinterpreting what you meant, then just ignore me, and no hard feelings on my part. I'm not trying to put words in your mouth, I honestly am not sure what you meant.

110. Nobody celebrates national screw-ups here.
We predict them based on reality, and when our predictions prove true and the time comes to say "I told you so," we say it. It's our job.

My brother fought in Iraq. Do you think I don't want the mission that the soldiers were told they were fighting in Iraq to succeed? Do you think I don't want the Iraqi people to have the liberty we were told that we would be giving them? Do you think I'm "obviously happy" that our soldiers AND those people are dying every day, for greed, lies, and ineptitude?

Go ahead and blame me for hating the party that sent my brother to war for a lie, and potentially exposed him to toxins that could kill him, like they killed my best friend's father, who died of Gulf War syndrome. I don't "gleefully celebrate" that, and NOBODY here does. But we aren't blind, and we're not going to hide the truth just because it's unpleasant, or because it makes us look cynical.

Fuck Hannity, and Fuck Hannity's mother, and Fuck Hannity's dog, and Fuck anything that has anything to do with him.

I've watched these holier-than-thou bastards denigrate and scheme to destroy anyone with a (D) behind his or her name.

These people speak in code, and I've deciphered that code.

You have lots of work to do -- and defending that dirt bag bastard seems to be a priority for you. But it's not for me.

I'm just amazed at all of the "new" posters on this thread jumping to his defense, and demanding "accuracy" on my part.

I sure as fuck didn't see that demanded of those immoral bastards as they attacked, unmercifully, Bill Clinton, his wife, his friends or his child.

I'll say it again: these people speak in code. They have perfected that art. And until Democrats learn how to deal with it, and call a spade a spade, we will always be at these dirt bags mercy.

120. You know
I agree with you. In real life we would probably get along really well.

Here at DU I will be careful to toe the party line until I have at least 500 posts at which point you can be sure I am a radical lefty.

It's funny, in real life I do come off as a radical lefty.

Catwoman, I agree with you. I was just pointing out that you left out a word. We could have easily refuted what Hannity ACTUALLY said. I think it's important. I notice a trend. And yes the conservatives do it WAAAAY more than liberals.

In the past I have read your posts and found them insightful and of value. This is not a personal attack.

94. How Talk Show Hosts Will Beat The Rap After Day of Reckoning
I fervently hope that someday someone will get sufficiently angry at these talk-show "hosts" to take them to court for slander and win sizable damages for broadcast calumny, but I'm none too hopeful that such a plaintiff will get what's due them on legal appeal. I can well imagine the defendants' attorneys arguing for a reduction of the fine on the grounds that the original plaintiffs were slandered by persons known to be practicing and documented habitual liars.

97. On second thought, I'm GLAD he said this.
Because no one EVER disputed the fact that Kerry was IN COMBAT in VIETNAM. Damn, the US NAVY backed his shit up.

The reason I'm glad he said this is because when freepers like my father in law utter WORD ONE about Kerry's service, I can bring up that this idiot said this and even my freeper father in law (a Vietnam vet himself) will have to say that isn't true, that Kerry WAS in combat in Vietnam.

this kind of comment.

When they repeat and repeat this garbage, it becomes truth to the people who watch/listen.

It's an outrage! Kerry and the Dems should rip this guy to shreds.

100. This is typical
of these chickenhawk freeptards. Too scared to fight when it's their turn, but not too scared to promote war when it's someone else's turn to fight. And then impugn the honor and integrity of true combat veterans since combat veterans tend to be less willing to send a bunch of kids into harm's way then the chickenhawks (Think George McGovern, Jimmy Carter, John Kerry).

105. confession
I generally vote republican, but have voted for Democrats.

I live in the NY area so I have listened to Limbaugh and Hannity for years and years. Hannity was OK when he was just local to NY. He got worse when he went national, and I started to listen to him less and less. before the election I stopped listening altogether.

He is just a complete ass at this point.

( Will this confession get me banned? )

109. How can one get a copy of the checks Coulter and Hannity
are receiving from our government to publish these outrages statements? Is it possible? Of course, one has to find out which branch of government authorized the payment and that could get tricky under the freedom of information act. I am convinced that all these media whores are being paid with taxpayer's money to propagandize.

The Gannonorama breaks out. What IS a one-trick pony
to do?

Drag out the "successful" SBVT-horsecrap.

THE ONLY GOOD THING about rigged elections is that they
drive the group who thought they won deeper into stupidity.

There's no feedback on what tactics actually work. What issues
are really relevant. So they (If I may say this) spin off into
insanity. They're so convinced it worked they pump it for all
it's worth. As, Wes Clark said... "Expect to see a lot more of
what seems to work."

I know Voltaire is quoted ad nauseum around here... But,
my favorite is his only prayer:

"Please Lord, make all of my enemies ridiculous." Looks like
they are well on their way. Thanks Lord!

119. It's true ....
Kerry likes to dress up in Power Ranger costumes, and prance around on battleships. But he was never in the hell of war. That was President George W. Bush. It was George W. Bush that won the war in Vietnam. Single-handedly, too. He was called "George of the Jungle" by the Viet Cong. They feared him to an extent they were prone to hide in tunnels to avoid his wrath. It was the politically correct left-wing that try to re-write history, and pretend Kerry had the balls to wear the uniform in a time of conflict. He didn't. George Bush, Sr got Kerry a cushy position with the Girl Scouts, also unreported.

129. Maybe there's more to the story
As many people (or conspiracy buffs) know in 1966, Paul McCartney was in an accident and the Beatles found a team who found a man with the same voice, same ability to play bass and write songs, who looked close enough like him with plastic surgery to fool the world.

Well, roughly at the same time, John Kerry realized that he would soon have to go to the Navy. Deciding that he would have far more fun spending the next 4 or so years in France, he hired the same team. This was actually easier, they found a young, tall man who could pass for Kerry to the navy, where no one knew the real Kerry. Substituting is so much easier when you are not world famous. After about 3 1/2 years the fake JK was able to return. He was met at the airport by the real JK and thanked and paid off.

The real John Kerry since then has said that he was in Vietnam. But somehow after all these years, Sean Hannity found out. How, no one knows.

130. Maybe the function of the right wing media
is to saturate the airwaves with so many lies, that we spend so much time focusing on those and missing stuff going on behind the scene? That is the only explaination I can come up with for the incredible number of such blatant lies.

132. just an observation for what it's worth.....
It's amazing what today's shameless mainstream press will swallow whole when it comes to Whitehouse spin and what us Dems allow Bush and Co, to get away with.
I joined the Marine Corps in 1968, went to Viet Nam as a lowly grunt, returned home and finished my service in Camp Lejuene, NC in 1970. Within the past couple of years I requested my C-File (all records of my service)and I am here to tell you this thick file represents a chronological, documented record of every single day of my whereabouts during my time serving in the Marine Corps.
How is it possible, pray tell, that the son of a high profile ambassador and grandson of a U.S. senator cannot account for a certain period of time that he "served"? Lost records?
Even though a high ranking officer has admitted being asked to help GW get a cushy job back when he entered the service, we're just supposed to accept GW's version?
"Trust" them that GW Bush served honorably? "Trust" them that the voting machine software is on the up and up? Trust them? Trust them?
I never thought I would find myself quoting or paraphrasing Ronald Reagan with a straight face, but we should say, 'Yes we trust you, but we need to verify just the same."
God give us Democrats a backbone.

135. There's an absence of evidence of cogitative capabilities
in either Hannity or Coulter.

What a pair of tools.

:eyes:

Just out of curiosity, what precisely would constitute "evidence of combat" to these spudbots? The sworn statements of his fellow Swiftboat veterans, his commanding officers, the men who served under him, obviously aren't sufficient to outweigh the "evidence" presented by a few disgruntled Republican operatives who never actually served with him. The story of the man he fished from the water while under fire is clearly insufficient evidence. The documentation of his Silver Star is insufficient. I suppose if there were a videotape, they'd claim it was a fabrication. What do they want, a fucking time machine?

There's an absence of evidence that Shitbird Shrub showed up for 18 months of his sworn service in the Air National Guard, too. Well, other than getting a filling - free services off the government teat for a millionaire, isn't that wonderful to see that level of independence and initiative? How uniquely American.
