Anyone watch The Daily SHow last night?
THe segment on Dean's election to the DNC. I was wondering what you thought of that.

1. Brutal on Democrats.
John needs to be an equal opportunity satirist, I suppose, but it was painful, not funny, to me.

Still love JS.

2. It was depressing
Why did they have to make fun of us poor Dems......like we don't have enough trouble with Fox kicking us around?

This was the one and only time I was mad at Jon Stewart.

5. I thought it was funny...
the funniest line was "this was a great example of the peaceful transfer of NO power."

also, he clowned Terry McAllaufe for his fake enthusiasm which is true.

remember he is a comedian first.

18. I Agree - it was funny
If we can't laugh at ourselves then we're just as bad as the other guys. The Daily Show has done more to reveal the incompetence and hypocrisy of the bu$h administration than any "real" news show on TV

I am still waiting for the 5% of the on air time to be devoted to rich people and all the things they do with their money.

call the man who got the Democratic Party to finally listen to the grass roots a loser. :hi:

10. Jon Stewart is a comedian
and as such, seems to have to ridicule both sides. It's wonderful and incisive when he takes on the republicans, but sickening when he does it to someone like Dean. He also did his share of ridiculing Kerry for being boring.

I think it is a mistake to make an icon out of Stewart. I think his basic sympathies are correct for the most part, but sometimes those cheap shots just come right through--either to prevent his show from being cancelled for being too left-wing, or simply to reinforce an obvious stereotype.

But most of all, he is still just a comedian with a bigger desire tobe an equal-opportunity ridiculer than an educator.

11. Again
I find TDS very funny, but worry that by making us laugh at the sort of political corruption that once would have been thought treasonous, he isn't helping make it "acceptable."

...And yeah, when he joins the rest of the MSM in kicking the Dem Party, I tune out. I know what's wrong there. I don't need Stewart ignoring real, timely issues to notify us that Gore is boring, or that Dean screamed once and it was made to look silly.

14. Depressing, yes, but you knew it was coming.
Stewart's a comedian and a leftie--he openly says so--but that election was humiliating and I knew at some point or another, there would be a bit on it.

I'm sure Stewart will go back to BushCo in good time, but we might have to suffer few a few "loser, helpless, spineless Democrat" episodes now and then.

24. I agree with you completely
as a democrat I though it was depressing...but as a realist it had truth to it, and we should learn live by making jokes on ourselves and lighten up a bit...Isn't it better to laugh at ourselves and the Democrats misfortune than to continue to wallow in our self pity??

It's not a news show, it's a comedy show.

Stewart's only responsibility is to get laughs and he states that in almost every interview about the show that he does.

There was nothing funny about that last night at all. It went beyond trying to be funny. I felt the same way when he went after Kerry.

The vast majority of them have stood by idly while the America we knew gets raped and murdered.

Ridicule is too good for most of them.

36. I didn't find it funny at all
There are like 20 different stories about the people in charge that would have been more funny and it felt like he was piling on. In fact, did they even mention the Bush administration last night? I turned it off when the guest came on.

I told my husband that it was the worst Daily Show I had ever seen. They didn't even bother to say that the other candidates had dropped out, very lazy job on their part.

39. Months ago he told off Tucker Carlson and criticized CNN's "Crossfire'"
for not doing their jobs as professional journalists. He was dead serious. And correct.

Stewart's a DUer at heart but he still has to make a living making fun of people in power positions.
