Bush: "Benefit cuts is an interesting word." IS???
English, Mr. President. Please speak english.

Bush said in an interview with local newspapers that he was not expressing a preference for one idea that would link benefit growth to increases in prices rather than wages. That idea, backed by some White House officials, would effectively slow the growth of the benefits.

``Benefit cuts is an interesting word,'' Bush was quoted as saying in the Quad-City Times, a Davenport, Iowa newspaper.

2. It's a phrase, not a word.
Sheesh. I know that might sound picky to some people, but it's not a difficult concept to master.

Word = singular

Phrase = more than one word

4. Here is a word: DEFLATION Tell Americans they will be facing
deflation and that wages are stickier on the way down than prices are (led by China making everything and selling it to everyone through Wal-Mart). And then stop the ******* bidding war on houses because during deflation (or very low inflation) - the public doesn't want a huge mortgage on a huge house.

"Cut" a favourite word of gay men everywhere.

8. Poverty is profitable
I got this phrase from What's the Matter with Kansas by Thomas Frank, it is the underlying principle of the GOP agenda. Poverty is profitable. Poverty makes stocks go up and labor go down.

9. Careful now...
"Poverty is profitable" is a clause, not a phrase.

As a big Central Valley farmer in the 80s once remarked, "It takes a lot more poor people to make a millionaire these days."

10. Thank you, I would be the first to admit my grammar stinks.
People say that bush uses bad grammar. I don't even think the strings of words he utters are phrases or clauses! They seem more like bits and pieces of scripted answers that he cannpt totally recall. Just a guess.

And your quote is a sad but true.
