My letter to to a local news station.

To whom it may concern,

I was dismayed this morning to turn on your news program and see you feature a story by the infamous bigot Dr. James Dobson on why marijuana should be kept illegal. "A study shows that marijuana gives you cancer, marijuana causes brain damage in teenagers, marijuana scrambles women's DNA, including their reproductive eggs," and so on and so forth. Of the many objections I have to this piece, including Dobson's unhealthy fixation on women's reproductive system, the two that stand out most are:

1. The studies Dobson "cites" are fradulent and have been debunked.

2. Are the people at KVAL unaware that this is the same loony who recently attacked Spongebob Squarepants as being a gay menace?

I have to say I doubt it. What can I expect tomorrow? A piece by David Duke on why Bob Jones University scientists think gay marriage should remain illegal? Usually, at this point in angry letters, the author states he or she will no longer be watching the offending program. I can honestly say that isn't the case here. I will be watching your program. And I'm going to be writing down the names of local advertisers. Then I'm going to call them up and tell them that they are the ones I won't be doing business with anymore.

I agree with your feelings 100%. As a occasional user for over twenty years, I find the lies and mis truths portrayed by our media and government to be appalling. I salute you for taking a stand more people need to follow in your footsteps.

Just the right touch of anger, flip humor (I especially love the "...including Dobson's unhealthy fixation on women's reproductive system" comment!), and threatened action that should get their attention (assuming they are literate).

My station carries that shit, too. used to be once an hour, now they bring him on twice an hour. Must be getting lots of "Oh, THANK YOU for airing someone with Dr. Dobson's inspired clarity!" letters.....

The promise to keep watching only to find out what advertisers to boycott is perfect--I'll be lifting that line for my own use, thanks.
