CIA, FBI Warn Panel on Top Threats to U.S.

WASHINGTON - Groups associated with al-Qaida are at the top of the list of threats to the United States, leading government intelligence officials said Wednesday, saying Iran has emerged as a top threat to American interests in the Middle East.

Despite gains made against al-Qaida, CIA (news - web sites) Director Porter Goss, in an unusually blunt statement before the mostly secretive Senate Intelligence Committee, said the terror group is intent on finding ways to circumvent U.S. security enhancements to attack the homeland.

"It may be only a matter of time before al-Qaida or other groups attempt to use chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear weapons. We must focus on that," Goss said.

1. FEAR. FEAR. FEAR. FEAR.
WE MUST FOCUS ON THE BIG BAD AL QAEDA BOOGEYMEN. STOP. STAY IN YOUR HOMES. IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE SMOKING GUN IN THE FORM OF A MUSHROOM CLOUD BLOWS YOUR HOUSE IN!

Rinse, Repeat.

What the hell happened to this country?

2. good question. I have another one
what troops? We're in over our heads, now. The reserves are making up an unprecendented proportion of our forces. And Marine and Army recruitment is down.

20. Synthetic Terror - Great term!
That is a well-coined phrase.

Reminds me of dialectics.

Dialectical motion has three stages: THESIS, ANTITHESIS, and SYNTHESIS.

I'm afraid to apply dialectics to this administration, for I fear their thesis.

16. The question is . . . how?
Violent overthrow by the populace? You'd have greater hope of that working than for the Republican-majority Congress to wash their ink-stained fingers, get a spine and impeach the sumbitch.

8. Amazing
It is simply amazing that they continue to use the same tactics as they did to attack Iraq. Yet all the so called morally minded supporters are still following him with all their heart. Sheeple is all they are.

9. U.S. security enhancements, oh, please. Pontificating on the obvious.
We are so vulnerable to a catastrophe, and many cities and other potential targets are not prepared to respond in an effective way to an attack. How we respond to an event is even more vital than the attempts to prevent it.

10. "finding ways to circumvent U.S. security enhancements to attack the home"
What enhanced security? You mean that security that lets a guy operating a interstate prostitution business into the WH with 20 feet of the pres as a member of the WH press corps? That security?

12. The same security
..that let numerous hecklers and demonstrators get into the repub convention. It was probably one of the most "secure" places in the country at the time, and the hecklers almost outnumbered the repugs.

11. Meanwhile the Polar Ice Caps drip drip dip and we chug along putting too
much Co2 into the sky. Al Queda may attack here or there. The pollution will absolutely hurt everyone EVERYWHERE.

So who is the greater threat? An organization which may or may not still be operable or the polluters running the world to their immediate advantage?

18. Time to go shopping for Ducktape....
Wonder what they are up to next?

Let's see. Step one- send panic message from the FBI and or CIA as above (nice to see them working together by the way- glad someone decided they should "team up" to fight terror. Took a while but at least they are now on the same press release so that's good!)

Step 2- Raise terror alert (or did they do away with the color chart- I can't remember).

Step 3 - Video of Osama perhaps? (he's not been around for a while so perhaps it's time for another terrifying view)
step 4 could be-
A- Attacking Iran (or dropping a few bombs on some key targets)
B- Attacking Syria
C- Starting the Draft (after all, the Axis of Evil is a very big circumference of land)
D-- The mystery card. What are those creative folks in NeoCon land thinking up for us this time? Guess we'll have to be patient.

(Beam me up please, I've had enough of georgie and his friends)

19. Notice how
they never have anything specific. It's just more vague talk - whether it's Goss or Rumsfeld or Mueller.

Anyone can talk this way - no evidence or any detail that might actually make some sense.

Good grief.

It still blows my mind that the Pentagon ever got hit. If they couldn't protect that, they are no way qualified to protect the country.

Are they this bad at protecting the country? Have they stopped hundreds of plots since 9/11? Or is there something more sinister going on?
