I hadn't been in the halls of a public high school for about 10 years when circumstances bought me there last year. I was jolted by the contrast between the way girls were dressing and the way boys were dressing. The school was a suburban very middle class high achieving institution.

The girls dressed like streetcorner sex trade workers did (again ten years ago.) I can't imagine how far hookers have gone in attire in these intervening years.

But the boys --- they were covered from head to toe in supersized baggy tops and pants. Are the girls becoming the aggressors in school? Are the boys feeling diminished and 'hiding'? It would seem that Laura Bush's message that it is time to focus on the needs of boys is long overdue, if this outward expression of 'self-esteem' is any indication.

Not reading your history is a common failing of the ignorant. In fact, women in this country had an incredible sense of modesty (often criticized by the Hugh Hefner's of our land) from the earliest days of our Republic right up until the 1920's. This may explain why sexual assault was virtually unheard of, and why (in public at least) women were treated with a seemingly exaggerated courtesy and respect, right up until the the middle of the 20th Century.

In the older days, Feminists didn't want women to dress in a revealing way because it was catering to men. Now they want them to dress like sluts for older women to enjoy.

Feminists are good for fun becasue they will have an abortion as a result of recreational sex. Feminists do not want marriage, but they do want sex. Feminists are not so picky about their sex partners because they enjoy recreational sex.

When I was in HS the boys had to swim in the nude. I was "normal" (whatever that means) but some of the kids had very small penises. I felt so sorry for them I couldn't stand it. One boy was crying when they made him undress in front of everyone else.

Times sure have changed.

Modesty doesn't just mean the way women dress either. It also includes the words that come out of their mouths. Women swearing is such a huge turn off--it's worse than when guys do it.

it is true. Some girls do dress very provocatively. I've caught myself saying or thinking "Girls just didn't look like that when I was in school", or "I wish I was 16 again and know what I know now".

Then I realize that if girls looked like that when I was in High School, all it would mean is that I just would have been rejected by better looking girls.

Makes me smile and realize that the woman I married (who is 44 this year) is all I could ever want in a woman.

...prior to the 70s when a lot of things went co-ed. Also by that time, synthetic-fabric swimwear had become so universal that the old reason for forbidding "bathing costumes" (the clogging of filters by fibers shed from wool or cotton suits) was no longer a sigificant consideration.

Public schools, private schools, YMCAs, religious and not, etc. Happened all over the place, sometimes where you might least expect it.
