Owning the scream
Here is what Dean's first PR stunt as chair should be IMHO (I'm half kidding but something like this might be real effective):

Hold a press event in Vermont, announce that ice cream will be served.

At the event, have donors line up for a screaming contest. The winners will receive a half gallon of ice cream, everyone else gets samples, press included.

Huge banner behind the stage -- "Under new management"

After about 20 contestants, Dean goes to the microphone. Right as it seems he is about to scream, he stops and pulls out on of those small electronic megaphones. After giving the photographers a second or two to react and get ready, Dean screams into the megaphone and the megaphone blasts into the microphone, "this is our country and we're taking it back!"

Take it over the top. Exhaust it. Poke fun at the scream legacy. Own it. Put the media on notice that it won't work for them to pretend it was/is a big deal.

Okay, so why ice cream?

Because of course....

I scream! You scream!

We all scream for ice cream! (or for Howard Dean)

1. Although Ben & Jerry's (Vermont's finest) would probably be happy
to sponsor such an event, I don't think it's the right way to go.

3. Yes, then he should pull his short over his head
and do a cornholio impression. I'm not sure "lunatic" is really the impression he should be trying to make right now.

5. I hate to say it
But Dean doing Cornholio would be frickin' hilarious. Although I think the best Cornholio would probably be Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan

4. I agree, own "The Scream"
Whether or not your suggestion is ultimately the way to do it (although I like it!), we should be making lemonade out of that lemon.

The whole flap surrounding The Scream was a MSM-manufactured event. There are many people, including me, who saw it and thought better of Dean, just as one thinks better of a boxer who gets back up off the mat and jumps back into the fight.

Dean is bursting with energy, drive, and ideas. All the ingredients of a good public image, if treated that way.
