2. Bad idea-- unless you have a LOT of money...

the retail transaction costs of buying and selling currency will most likely eat up any gains you might see. If you have enough to get into something like a currency trading fund, that might be a way to go-- if the fund doesn't kill you with fees.

Personally, if I had enough money to worry about, but not enough to make it worthwhile to invest overseas, I'd buy gold as a hedge against worldwide economic collapse.
