Gannon/Guckert mentioned again in the Hartford (CT) Courant
Not as much today as yesterday, and this was more in the context of blogs. This "professor" seems a little unaware of all the facts regarding Gannon, too. paul.janensch@quinnipiac.edu He did mention a study that at least partially backs Eason Jordan of CNN that said that at least 9 journalists have died from US fire.

Bloggers, Right And Left, Have Become Modern Vigilantes

February 17, 2005

Q: Prof. News, what lesson can be learned from the abrupt departure of CNN news chief Eason Jordan?

A: In the age of blogging, what you say or do can be used against you quickly and repeatedly until you surrender.

Bloggers - meaning those who maintain Web logs, or "blogs," on the Internet - hammered Jordan for what they were told he said about the taking of gunfire by journalists in Iraq. I'm sure he wishes he had chosen his words more carefully at an international forum in Davos, Switzerland, last month.
....

Here's another example of blogging on the left. Liberal bloggers recently unmasked Jeff Gannon, an openly pro-Republican blogger for a Website called Talon News, who was allowed to cover the White House just like a real journalist and toss puff-ball questions to Bush and his press secretary. After being called on by the president at a news conference last month, Gannon attacked Democratic Senate leaders and called them "divorced from reality."

Blogger Gannon's blogging adversaries found that his real name is James Dale Guckert, that his website belongs to a Texas Republican activist and that he had registered Internet domain names with sexual overtones, such as Hotmilitarystud.com. Gannon, alias Guckert, said he was resigning from Talon News "in consideration of the welfare of me and my family."
