Got my election reply from McCain
I take it that HAVA is going to save us??? Here I thought HAVA was part of the problem.

Text from snail mail letter: My typing.

Dear Demonfighter:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the current electoral and voting system. I appreciate you taking the time to share your position.
One of the serious violations of our democratic electoral process was highlighted in the 2002 November election by the overwhelming number of precincts that reported flaws with their voting machines. In response, the 107th Congress considered and passed into law the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) which created a new federal agency with election administration responsibilities. Moreover, HAVA sets requirements for voting and voter-registration systems and authorizes federal funding, but does not supplant state and local control over election administration.

As you may know a number of bills were introduced during the last Congress which would change how current electoral and voting system are administered, and I believe that more will be introduced in the 109th Congress. Please be assured that I will keep your views in mind should any of these bills be considered by the full Senate.

Again, thank you for contacting me. Please do not hesitate to do so in the future on this or any other matter of concern.

Sincerely,
John McCain
United States Senator

I feel so much better now that John and HAVA have my back! :)
Did anyone else get the similar letter?

1. I'll say this about McCain...
When I was being HOUNDED by student loan collectors who did everything but threaten to send a leg-breaker to my house, I wrote to Senator McCain (he's a veteran and was all over the news at the time), he isn't even my senator (I live in New Hampshire). Within two days I had a call from his staff, they asked a load of questions about my problem then compiled a report and handed it over to Bob Smith, my then senator, who called me personally then proceeded to establish a three-way call with the loan collection company and administer a red ass on my behalf.

Within two hours I had a six-month deferrment backed by several threats that if I was contacted in a hostile manner again then the student loan guarantor was in a world of shit.

About a week later I received a letter from Senator McCain asking how things turned out for me.

Republican, sure, but he's a cool guy.

5. I'm glad he helped you
I would have never sent McCain an e-mail if I thought he was a bad guy. I was attempting to get a Republican to sign on with the Boxer rebellion.
I really like the fact that I got an official reply from him and I think he might be concerned about voting. He looked very uncomfortable when * went to kiss him before the election. I don't know why he chooses to side with B*shco.

9. New Hampshire?
Now would the good senator have done the same had you lived in Montana or California or a state that didn't have an early primary?

McCain sold his soul to the dark side. He talks a populist game, but rarely votes that way. The ultimate insults were his complicity with this regime last year...especially when Kerry's military record was attack...McCain stayed nearly silent when he could have spoken out and did more to sink the Slime Boaters than Kerry could have (or did).

"Cool Guys" are the ones to watch out for. They smile and glad-hand ya, then when you're not looking, they're in the back rooms taking the checks and selling you out.

15. Agree ,
Although he himself avoided critisizing Kerry's military record, all he did was make one tiny statement condemming the Slime boaters. Kerry was the first and strongest of the Senate vets to back McCain when Bush attacked and Kerry backed McCain through many attacks when they were working on the POW/MIA thing. (I esp liked Kerry's wording that the" attacks were beyond cruel" )

All I know is that any sane Senator watching this who is friendly with both, should realize that Kerry is the one with loyalty, integrity and a conscience. (I no longer buy the straight talking maverick line - in fact the description would fit Kerry better although his straight talking is disguised by the eloquent but wordy wording.)

16. I think Goldeneye said disappointed
I was a little bit too. I mean it was nice to hear from him, but I have no respect for Dubby's reforms of any kind. I didn't think our electoral or voting system was screwed up until W and the gang re-appeared. I could be wrong, but HAVA has not seemed to do anything of import. Anybody know?
