What is a "journalist?"
What's the difference between a real journalist and a fake one?

4. Why is that a better question?

The White House Press Corps defines itself. They're the ones who make the rules determining access to the briefings. They're the ones who have said they're not going to change the rules because they don't want to get into the question of what a journalist is.

PS: But I am interested in that question, now that I think of it. :hi:

3. By definition
a journalist is a person who regularly publishes articles on current events based on the classic 5 Ws in a recognized press medium and earns the majority of income from that endeavor.

The 5 Ws are Who, What, When, Where and Why.

Gannon/Guckert meets none of this definition.

6. There are specific requirements...
A "journalist" is a person who writes for a news organization whose main source of revenue is either from paid subscriptions or paid outside advertising.

Normally, a "journalist" is hired because of his/her Clips Portfolio (a compilation of writing samples published in legitimate College and/or mainstream print media venues). This ensures proper training and potential for success if hired.

The "journalist's" main source of income must be salary paid by the news organization.

This is why Congress denied Guckert/Gannon press credentials.

He was paid only a stipend ($1500, I think) the whole time he "worked" for Talon News, which can not show that its revenues come from either paid subscriptions or outside advertising.

7. There is no difference.
All a journalist is, is a person who writes for a news publication. It does not matter what the publication is, how long they have been a journalist or what type of education they have, they are still a journalist. Guckert may be a terrible journalist but people should not fall into the trap of saying he is a fake one.

This Gannon flap is going to have zero effect on the White House but what it will do is give MsM power over smaller independent news outlets that will now be portrayed as fake journalist by MsM to the public.
