Covenant Marriage?
This may have already been mentioned in another thread, but I have to get some of this frustration off my chest. Till yesterday when I saw the Governor of Arkansas tie the knot I had no idea there was such a thing as covenant marriage, but now that I know I am pissed off. After all that talk about the sanctity of marriage they create a different form of marriage. Why do you need a different level of marriage, just don't get divorced. As a married man I get the feeling that this somehow cheapens my marriage. doesn't this also blur the line between church, and state being that as far as the government is concerned marriage is only a legal arrangement involving assets. Its just a stupid idea that was definitely inspired by the Christian Right.

1. Very true.
It seems to go one step further towards the domination of the right. It makes it so they can define what is sacred and what is not.

2. I kinda think it weakens their argument against same-sex marriages
If the institution of marriage is so solid with just hetero marriages, what do they need covenant marriages for? Hmmmm? Could it be that straight people are weakening the institution themselves with their super-high divorce rates?

This is why my boyfriend and I are happy just living together. Marriage is meaningless unless you are religious.

As for church and state, I guess the wording makes it kinda religious sounding, but all it really does is make it harder to get divorced. I guess you could argue it either way, but marriage is also a civil contract and there isn't anything religious about trying to strengthen a civil contract. It just prooves what a sad state marriage is in and that so few people take it seriously.

3. I think covenant marriages are really really bad idea.
It's a simple-minded "solution" to a extremely complex problem and will likely bring a lot of problems on it's own.

No one goes into a marriage expecting the marriage to end.

I can already imagine young people thinking how "romantic" a covenant marriage would be and not realizing what they are really setting themselves up for down the line.

I can also see coercion being a factor in this as well. "If you really loved me, you would agree to a covenant marriage, sweetheart." and churches putting social pressure on their flock to enter into these these things.

4. 3rd highest divorce rate State is RED and into "Covenant Marriage?" - sad
they'd be better off with just following what we learned from the first coming of Jesus

Sadly those into get even - and God will do the get even for me in the second coming - seem to be less likely to stay married.

6. Next: Covenant Divorce
Based on the Old Testament, Covenant Divorce allows the man to have the woman stoned to death for any transgressions.
