This AM: Faux "News" - Fairly Unbalanced as usual RE Negroponte Nod

I heard one of the shill just now on Faux commenting that "we haven't heard anything negative about the appointment of John Negroponte" to which another shill said "That's right, because he is one of the most qualified and ideally suited candidates for this position"


So as usual it's up to us regular folks out here to try and provide some balance...

He is a controversial figure because of his involvement in covert funding of the Contras in Nicaragua (see Iran-Contra Affair) and his covering up of human rights abuses carried out by CIA-trained operatives in Honduras in the 1980s.

Negroponte supervised the construction of the El Aguacate air base where Nicaraguan Contras were trained by the US, and which critics say was used as a secret detention and torture center during the 1980s. In August 2001, excavations at the base discovered 185 corpses, including two Americans, who are thought to have been killed and buried at the site.


Records also show that a special intelligence unit (commonly referred to as a "death squad") of the Honduran armed forces, Battalion 3-16, trained by the CIA and Argentine military, kidnapped, tortured and killed hundreds of people, including US missionaries. Critics charge that Negroponte knew about these human rights violations and yet continued to collaborate with the Honduran military while lying to Congress.

2. Allow me to clarify

You and I see intentionally misleading congress and the public in order to fund nefarious international death squads and human rights abusers in order to promote the interests of Pepsi as negative, they see it as necessary through some convoluted conscience assuasion technique they've refined over decades. Most of them probably even find it a bit amusing.
