and it's not a blog either.

7. I think a blog is an opinion site, and a forum/message board
is one like this. Though DU has opinions listed on the homepage, so I should be considered as much of a blog as FreeRepublic.

"I am a little concerned that freerepublic.com is on your blog watch-list, but it's democratic counterpart, www.democraticunderground.com, is not. Perhaps you should consider adding DU.

Also, it should be noted that both Free Republic and Democratic Underground are not actual "blogs," but rather public message boards. A blog is generally updated by a specific individual or individuals, with no posting privledge to the public. Message boards can be posted to by anybody (although they reserve the right to delete your account if you fit their description of a "disruptor." Thanks..."

14. We are NOT their "Democratic Counterpart." In NO way do we equate to them
I'm not trying to get personal, I am just trying to re-frame the issue.

When I left a message for C-SPAN, I made sure to say that even ultra-right wing commentator Sean Hannity calls Free Republic "The Lunatic Fringe" and expressed my concern that they neglected the more rational and balanced DemocraticUnderground.com .

Not to mention the influential and widely-read Alternet.org .

We are not their "counterpart."

We are the rational, progressive voice of the Democratic party. Free Republic is the "lunatic fringe" of the right-wing extremists.

Does that work?

Suggestions, anyone?

38. Freeperville is not an alternative to DU
Because:
1. It has no variety, while DU has forums on everything from cooking to Wesley Clark supporters to Fat Acceptance.
2.Freepers are all radical RW wing, few moderates there. We represent a wide variety of liberalism from Clinton New Democrats to Kucitizens to Green party members.
3. They are totally crappy website, but this site rules.
4. We've got better pictures and avatars than the Freepers.

Edited on Thu Feb-17-05 10:50 PM by tasteblind
I see shit here every bit as wacky as the wackiest shit over there. Sometimes I'm even the one posting it.

I'm not so sure of myself that I would pretend to be objective enough to say whether or not DU is an ideological foil to them.

I would hope we could find better company than that.

I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand, though.

and looked at the list and saw freakrepublic. I, too, didn't notice that DU or other liberal blogs that I know of listed. Though some were. Did cspan always have this list on their website? The only reason I noticed it this morning is because I wanted to send them an email to invite one of my favorite reporters on their show.

It looks like I'll be sending another one to add DU to their blog list.

I don't think I have ever seen that man glow when he speaks of someone. LOL!

But I still like his station. I think he really urges his people to be fair and balanced. He started the station out that way and it will remain that way until the day he leaves....that's my opinion.

48. ever watch the show Washington Journal or roundtable?
Edited on Fri Feb-18-05 04:19 PM by tinanator
come on, you would think the Washington Times was the official C-SPAN journal. In fact I recently found an old VHS tape where I called in and NAILED Armstrong Williams, Brian Lamb and some sad WT guy, frank something I think. After I gave a brief history of the CIA involvement with domestic media from Scripps Howard on, the guy from WT turned out was a Scripps Howard alumnus and swore he never got any pressure to write a certain way. No doubt he needed none. The clear as day truth is C-SPAN does NOT present progressive voices in their programming except for the rare accident, usually at 3 AM or on C-SPAN 3. But if the Free Republic is cleaning their toilets, the C-SPAN cameras will be there from gavel to gavel.
Now, what do you know?
