Freepers split on gay marriage...on the Simpsons
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1345268/posts

I thought this was a fascinating conservative dialogue on same-sex marriage...for cartoon characters.

What this thread tells me is that there is hope even in conservative citizens. I don't think "red-states" or "repubs" are complete lost causes. Hopefully Dean will be able to appeal to these people who have "fallen to the dark side".

Hope it's okay to post to FR in certain cases. I'm still kind of new here.

2. I'm fascinated by this comment:
"You've mised out on one of the most conservative themed shows of the last 30 years. Not to mention funniest."

Misspelling aside, I have NEVER thought of the Simpsons as 'conservative themed'...Granted I haven't watched it consistently over the years...

5. LOL! The Simpsons Is the Complete Opposite Of a Conservative Show
They refer to Bush as a monkey at least a couple of times...They lambaste Fox news and Republicans regularly....LOL! Obviously the poster is too stupid to "get" the Simpsons.

19. if you aren't watching closely, then the simpsons can SEEM
like a conservative show, bc of the whole middle-america thing. but as soon as you look past the surface, (and not even that sometimes) it's pretty biting commentary on political ideology, as well as other issues.

the older shows are better tho. the new ones lost me.

8. I've seen every episode...it's not conservative at all.
They make fun of Rupert Murdoch, AND Fox News AND the Republican Party (showing them to perform evil ceremonies and one of their members to be a vampire).

They've come out in favor of gay rights, against The PAssion-like violence, against millionaire types...

These people are so freaking NUTS.

9. Same here meganmonkey...
I've been a Simpson's viewer for years and I'm of the
impression they'll take a shot at ANYBODY.

Yielding a fairly balanced show with a wide appeal...

Unlike, say, FOX News. The creators of the Simpson's embrace
the free-market ideal of The More The Merrier. ;)

3. Do these people even WATCH the Simpsons?
I'd like to see the story line before I start ranting. My bet is that Simpsons will make a mockery of the same sex agenda and come out strong for family values.

...looking forward to hearing Homer get to it with a girlee man or lesbian.

With Homer officiating the "ceremony" after getting his 'license' online, I suspect this episode isn't going to be exactly an in your face support of gay marriage episode.

YEah...right...because the SImpsons is soooo conservative and constantly promoting conservative ideals. They have already tried to show that just because a guy is gay doesn't make him any less of a man in "Homer's Phobia".

11. "Homer's Phobia" is one of my favorite episodes
There's also a really funny one in which Homer thinks Marge thinks she made a huge mistake by marrying him, so he goes to live in Springfield's gay district because the bachelor/divorced men's apartment complex in town is so depressing. One of his new gay roommates falls in love with him, and after his roommate kisses him Homer realizes that he still loves Marge.

After he goes home to Marge she gives him a big welcome home kiss and Homer says, "Honey, that's the best kiss I've had all day!" then thinks, "...or was it?" :D

Not that I've ever watched the Simpsons

You've mised out on one of the most conservative themed shows of the last 30 years. Not to mention funniest.

Now that's funny. The Simpsons is completely irreverent, and wholly subversive. Nothing conservative about that.

6. The only thing that makes sense on that thread is:
If you don't like it, don't watch it. Otherwise, they are just wierd.

Just don't watch it if you don't like it. Most TVs have buttons specifically designed to change channels.

10. How about this episode:
I love the episode where homer writes a song hating Flanders. Particularly this verse:

Flanders tried to wreck my song,
his views on birth control are wrong.

http://www.lyricsdownload.com/simpsons-everybody-hates-ned-flanders-lyrics.html

They constantly bash Christianity - how could it ever be considered purely "Conservative"?

12. I guess they missed the episode...
where Homer moves in with a couple of gay men, makes out with a gay man, and then later fantasizes about it when he's in bed with Marge.
