How do you feel about Al Franken's show today?
In case you're not aware he is doing a show with G Gordon Liddy. Al says that he and G are good friends. I admire Al for his even keeled approach to people, I wish I could be more that way, but today I had to turn the show off. I don't think I've missed one of Al's shows on AAR.

23. Agreed. Her laugh is very annoying
It's always there even during the most serious subjects--it makes it feel like the facile laughter on the sunday talking-whores programs.....everything is O.K. with the world as long as you can laugh about it. For some reason Franken's laugh doesn't bother me as much, but it too gets to me at times.

5. The format seems awkward
But that's probably because they've never tried anything like this. Funny that Al and G. would be friends. Another friend of Al's is that "resident dittohead" he talks to about Rush. Who needs enemies?

12. I'm friends with people I don't agree with.
When you are a rural dweller, it's important to maintain good relationships with your neighbors. You never know when you might need each other when services, urban people take for granted, are far away.

I think we would go a long way in achieving the dream of peace on earth, if we could be more charitable towards people who are different from us.

18. His friend is so brainwashed (I forget his name-- Mark?)
Edited on Thu Feb-17-05 09:09 PM by ailsagirl
Al got so angry at him awhile back (over political beliefs) that he said on the air that he nearly ended his friendship with Mark.

6. Look at it this way
Al isn't kowtowing to the Conservatives; Liddy is seeking refuge from a movement that he spent his life with, which is now turning into a monstrosity.

Liddy also hung out with Timothy Leary. He might be conservative, but there's more to him than meets the eye.

8. And they both despise O'Lielly... what more can you ask for...
G called O'Lielly "an embarassment" to the right... love it..

9. So far, so good.
He's doing a good job of explaining what FDR meant about SS even though it took some repetition to break through G's kool-aid barrier.

You know, I want to say this is keeping "your friends close and your enemies closer" in action, but apparently they ARE friends.

How weird is that?

10. Franken is a truly unique bird.
the only joke I've EVER remembered was Franken about 30 years ago on SNL

Did ya hear about the rabbi who did circumcisions for free?

He only kept tips.

17. At first I thought they were kidding...
I mean, I couldn't fathom Liddy being on Franken's show, let alone being a friend of his!!

(My loathing for what the right stands for absolutely prevents me from being friends with any of them.)

But once I got over my surprise, I found it pretty interesting.

And the clips of O'Reilly were absolutely hysterical!! And Al's and G's comments made them doubly so.

19. I think Al might
be a "collector" of people. I had a friend who was like that. He had friends in the FBI and people that the FBI might be looking for. He probably likes a variety of people for a variety of reasons.

20. They were at some conservative conference.
I thought the vibes were a bit oppressive.

I give Franken a lot of credit. He was in hostile territory trying to do comedy.

Franken likes Liddy because he has a sense of humor, even about himself. Can't say that about O'Reilly, North or Hannity or even Rush, though Rush is basically a comedian. Liddy also (relative to the others) has integrity. He's nuts, but he's not a hypocrite. And Franken tell him that.

Of all the villains, Liddy is the one I'd like to hang out with. Well, once, anyway.

I don't like everything Franken does, and it can get repetitious, but doing three hours of air every day is no mean feat. And he is informative and accurate and funny.
