Mehlman -- An openly gay man "close to Rove" heads the RNC?
I'm sorry, but this all strikes me as more than a tad bit bizarre...

Mehlman is taking (took?) Ed Gillespies place (I guess? Did he?)

Regarding Daniel Gurley, who is also mentioned below, he was outed in the fall of 04 for being a big fat hypocrite when his AOL profile was discovered and also a profile on gay.com (I believe by raw story according the the below blog which is Arriana Huffington's)

These people are the biggest freaking hypocrites known to man and
WHY this pattern of Rove surrounding himself with gay hating, gay men that spew RW bullshit?

Coupled with the Gannon thing...I have to think this is a trend not a coincidence.

I think the Gannon connection is Rove himself
(that would also explain how Gannon knew about Wilson/Plame)

"Mehlman, who has long been rumored to be gay and whose party put pressure on two New York newspapers during the Republican National Convention to kill stories questioning the single 38-year-old’s sexuality, will succeed Ed Gillespie.

Two additional sources who had been in contact with blogACTIVE.com, which outed Rep. Ed Schrock and Rep. David Dreier, retracted their statements about Mehlman after saying they received calls from press officers at the Party.

Mehlman will join two other top Republicans who are openly gay: the Chief Financial Officer of the Republican Party Jay Banning, and the party’s number two political director and National Field Director Daniel Gurley. Both confirmed that they were gay and refused to answer questions about the party’s positions on gay marriage in telephone calls published by RAW STORY in September.

Mr. Mehlman must be approved for the post by an RNC vote, which is considered a mere formality once the president officially taps him for the post. He has strong ties to Bush adviser Karl Rove, the man President Bush has called “the architect” of his Nov. 2 victory."

1. What's bizarre? Think of Nazi Ernst Rohm.
Rohm headed the SA and had a harem of young men at his service. Why not in the white house? The point is that these are not "gay men"--they are closeted homosexuals. The hypocrisy is stunning.

4. I agree
and what I wonder is how much secrecy about this is going around the WH. I have strong suspicions that Rove is in the closet or has ventured out with a shroud over his face and this is where the true issue of banning same-sex marriage comes in along with many other homophobic issues this administrations pushes. It's becoming clearer each day.

9. Something just dawned on me
If gay marriage were legal and more acceptable there would be legal standards set regarding same sex relationships in general (I think)--

Would we have same sex people freely suing same sex partners who dumped them, promised to commit etc?

These guys...the Gannons, Roves, Melhman's and whoever else are in the closet.

Obviously they don't want a long term relationship, they are high profile, wealthy people, so why would they want gay marriage to be more acceptable?

As long as it stays unpopular with the majority of the American society the people they use and have their secret sex romps with will be ashamed to come forward, right?

I am on meds for an ear infection so perhaps this isn't one of my better theories.

2. He's not openly gay.
He could never run the RNC if he were openly gay. They wouldn't allow it.
