Jimmy Carter has the RW blogs in an uproar.
Edited on Thu Feb-17-05 01:24 PM by tjwash
Ever since the commissioning of the attack submarine Jimmy Carter, the RW blogs, like the cretins at powerline, have posted stories about the "traitorous Jimmy Carter." Apparently, the only way these losers can keep readers, is through invective and hyperbole.

Personally, JC was one of my favorite Presidents, and on my top ten list of best human beings of all time. And for the record, He actually went to Annapolis and served as as a Nuclear Engineer, so it is an appropriate honor.

I just see red when these blogs trash JC. It is 99 percent pure jealousy. In our entire lives, most people will never accomplish as much as Mr. Carter has accomplished in his. A lifetime Sunday school teacher, a Naval officer, a businessman, a President, a world-renowned statesman, the winner of the Nobel Peace prize, still married to the same woman he married as a young man, and a brilliant speaker. That's who Jimmy Carter is to me. To hell with what these losers think.

1. They're blaming Carter for losing Iran
Completely ignoring the fact that the Shah had lost control after years of brutal rule and the SAVAK's history of torture and murder.

By the time Carter turned his back on the Shah, daily demonstrations against the Shah were numbering in the hundreds of thousands.

13. As a president - he was our best role model
As to Iran - it was lost when we toppled Mohammed Mossadegh. Just like Saudi Arabia was lost in 1936 -- the fall of the House of Saud is inevitable.

17. Nevermind the fact that George Bush Sr.
was the Middle East station chief for the CIA at the time. Do you think Carter would have acted differently had he had accurate intel? Do you think perhaps we may not have had an embassy held hostage had there been some inkling it was going to happen?

22. Operation Desert Claw sabotaged.

Carter's Operation Desert Claw sabotaged:
http://old.valleyadvocate.com/25th/archives/bushs_watergate.html

........The mission proved disastrous. At least two American helicopters crashed into each other in the desert long before they made it anywhere near Teheran. Eight Marines were killed. Carter looked ineffectual and frustration with the hostage crisis escalated.
Unfortunately, the operatives in charge of Desert Claw may not have been loyal to Carter -- or to the U.S. Carter held deeply alienated a broad range of CIA operatives by trying to clean up the Agency when he first came to power. Admiral Stansfield Turner, the tough but honest Navy man Carter put in charge at the CIA fired some 600 "spooks" soon after taking command. Many were deeply loyal to former Director George Bush and to the "Old Boy" network that serves as the Agency's true infrastructure.
That loyalty may have carried over to sabotage of Operation Eagle Claw. For the man who served as chief mission planner was none other than Richard Secord, who later surfaced as a major kingpin in the shady arms dealings between the Reagan White House and the contras of Nicaragua. A top staffer at a key base in Eagle Claw's catastrophic helicopter support operation was none other than the legendary Colonel Oliver North. Working closely with him as a logistical planner was Albert Hakkim, who later sat by Secord's side at the Congressional Iran-contra hearings and wept of his love for Oliver North.
As historian Donald Fried has put it "Precisely the people in the intelligence community commissioned to develop some kind of rescue for the hostages were those elements of covert action close to William Casey and hostile to Carter."
Casey, of course, later became Reagan's CIA chief. But higher up in the chain at the time of the failed rescue mission was Donald Gregg, a member of Carter's National Security Council who later surfaced as s high-level Bush operative. Gregg's close personal ties to Bush became a serious issue in light of his extensive dealings with key contra figures tied both to the Iran-contra scandal and illegal drug shipments coming from Central America. Gregg is now Bush's ambassador to South Korea...........

28. Jimmy Carter is amazing
I love all the work he's done for third world countries and everything.
He deserves it for all his patriotism and hard work. And yeah, he does teach Sunday school and it's great. Now he's a true Christian! Bush could learn a lot from him! Plus, Mr. Carter is very humble. :toast:

6. First off, I think Carter deserves the honor, HOWEVER...
I don't think he was a good or an effective president. His inability to delegate, his blissful unawareness of the power of images in the television age, his slowness in responding to crises, and his absolutely horrible handling of both the hostage crisis and the Afghanistan invasion doomed him as a president to me. Being president is about more than just being moral and good and intelligent. It's about being a leader, and he never really quite seemed like one to me. I believe that the weakness he displayed then continues to be a major problem for democrats today.

He's certainly done much in private life since then to redeem his legacy.

And he was never anything but a patriot.

Now, it's time to start naming airports and aircraft carriers for President Clinton!

7. i still have a problem with naming such things after the still living
it's subject to abuse by people who have an ongoing political agenda, witness the movement to rename a school in every county after reagan (now dead, but the movement started way before).

nevertheless, carter is a good person to honor thusly.

damn shame about his choice of which four years to serve as president, though. things would be so different if reagan were president during that term and THEY had to pay the price for the oil shocks and for losing iran.

As per usual they hide their own misdeeds in scapegoating an enemy. Now they go after a nobel lauriat. They truly are a mob.

But wouldn't you be afraid of a truly 'born again' Democratic President?

Dr. M.L. King will be next!!

They have the nerve to call him a traitor? When it was their cult leader Reagan who was negotiating with the terrorists holding Amaricans captive?

Hmmmm. I wonder... could it be that these freepiots aren't, um, y'know... aren't very bright?

12. Jimmy Carter was a better President than even many people on this board
give him credit for. He was telling the truth to the American people about energy, the environment, the economy, when Reagan was brought in to spew HORSESHIT about America "being great again," fooling the masses with his jingoistic nonsense while resuming the march toward Empire. Carter did what any 20th-Century President should have done, which is try to find ways to break the harsh news to a society in the throes of consumerism and greed. He was too good a man, and yes, too good a President, for this country as it is.

15. Maybe this country didn't deserve him.
Maybe we had him long enough to know what a good President could be like, and then he was taken away from us. If there is such a thing as karmic payback, we do have a lot to make up for like the genocide of the native population and slavery for starters

Why don't we name the submarine for Ronald Reagan and the airport for Jimmy Carter?

By the way, did you know Jimmy Carter put solar panels on The Whitehouse?

And Ronald Reagan TOOK THEM DOWN?

CMT had a special with Mr. Carter and Willie Nelson (they're good friends) on small towns in the country and everything and Mr. Carter talked about how he and Mrs. Carter met and got together. It was so cute. I so dislike how people are treating him with this. *sigh* :(

21. RW quilty of Transference
The true traitors were Nixon, Reagan, and both Bushes. They repeatedly broke the law and showed total disrespect for the constitution. Reagan and H.W. Bush illegally gave arms to Iran and to the Contras, armed and help the "feedom fighter", Bin Laden.

Yet they seem to spend at least half their time screaming that various Democrats are traitors. Most of last year it was Kerry, who is the probably one of the most moral candidate for the presidency- who spent much of his career trying to fight governmant corruption and terrosism. Now, it's the most moral President of my lifetime.

In retrospect, I wish Democrats would have made more of an issue on the Iran/Contra pardons - not that they could have been stopped, but so they would have made more of an impression on people. Those people and their leaders were the traitors.

26. Democrats should make more of an issue of everything
the right wing does.

They've always let 95% of the shit go by, even when they had the power.

Imagine what it would have been like if Democrats had not only defended Bill Clinton against the right-wing jihad against him, but had shoved it back in their faces hard, at every opportunity.
