Anyone familiar with aviation here?
I just happened to watch part of a press conference with either an FAA or NTSB spokeswoman on our local news and she made a comment which caught my attention regarding a small plane crash in Pueblo, CO. yesterday.

In addition to getting the flight data recorder from the flight which crashed and the one which landed approx. 5 minutes later, she said they had the radar which had some "interesting characteristics". Anyone know what that might mean?

Here's a link to the story, but the press conference details have not yet been posted.

1. It's a pretty non-specific comment
It might be an unusual glide path or erratic changes in speed. Freezing rain is deadly. It adds weight to the plane and really effects the aerodynamics.

2. I agree
Rader characteristics refer to: speed, velocity, range sweep, length of sweep, etc in other words the movements of the plane.

For instance, if the plane took a quick dive, that woud be significant. That may indicate engine problems.

3. Get hold of DemoTex.
He used to do FAA crash investigations. He's excellent at explaining the terms and the buzzwords. If there is anybody on here that can tell you what you want to know about crash investigation it'd be him.

I see him in the Lounge a lot lately if you are looking for him...

"We saw something out of the ordinary."
