Does Bush go out of his way to make bad appointments?
Or does it just come naturally to him? Some are only incompetent, but others (like Negroponte) seem downright evil.

1. BFEE
I am convinced that they, like Mike Malloy, says are part of a crime family. This is only rewarding their own.

2. I have wondered about this too.
And it's not just *. Remember Clarence Thomas, "the most qualified, talented jurist in America"? Right.

3. Bush appoints people most like himself
with ideological rigidity and blindness, plus an unwavering loyalty, plus a habit of trying to justify horriffic means by unattainable ends.

Don't expect anything else.

Negroponte is even worse than Gonzales, and would probably have gotten either SOS or AG if either of the Bushbots currently in place had been defeated.

9. That's always struck me too.
He could have his pick of young, ideological geniuses, but he always manages to pick the most outrageous people. Look at his 1st choice for the 9/11 commission chair - Henry Kissinger. And the judges he puts forward - in his haste he sometimes puts the most incompetent, unqualified nimrods. One even didn't have a law degree.

Also, performance seems to be no obstacle to a Chimp appointment. See the appointment of John Snow, who was widely considered to be a failure as CEO of CSX. Not to mention Dick Cheney himself, who manged to saddle Hlliburton with massive debt because he missed the asbestos claims against a company that he acquired.

No, these appointments seem to be tailor-made to anger political opponents, to make the opponents seem as if they complain against EVERYONE that he chooses.

11. It's evolution. Natural selection and the survival of the goddam assholes
You have to be a completely immoral asskisser to get close to Bush. When Bush promotes to the highest positions, it comes from the pool of Bush confidants, which is only completely immoral asskissers.

Those appointments made without those vital qualities in mind, like Powell and O'Neill and Whitman, have all been ended in a relentless process of natural selection. Out with the good, in with the bad.

Negroponte has proven himself in Iraq, where he sat in the Green Zone and pronounced that all is well. Negroponte proved himself in the UN, where he never did anything except attack its credibility. And the fact taht Negroponte tolerates death squads shows that no morals or ethics are going to put him out of step with the post 9/11 Bush "security" policies.
