How can anyone have confidence in Alan Greenspan?
Depsite the headline of this Reuters article, Greenspan was in fact beginning to say precisely that SS is in crisis. He only stopped saying it because he was interrupted and pressed on it before he could spit it out. Talk about a shill for the administration!

Greenspan Won't Say Social Security in Crisis
By REUTERS

Published: February 17, 2005

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan said on Thursday the U.S. Social Security retirement program is in serious trouble, but avoided saying it was in ``crisis'' -- as President Bush has charged.

In response to a question from the House of Representatives Financial Services Committee about why the system was in crisis, Greenspan began to answer: ``The crisis today is largely because...''

But a congressman interrupted to ask: ``You agree with the president it is a crisis, today?''

Greenspan then rephrased his reply.

``The word crisis depends on in what terms. That we have a very serious problem with the existing structure is what I would stipulate. The terms of how you describe it are far less important than defining what it is,'' he said....

1. Guy's a total * shill who needs to retire NOW.
I remember him desperately trying to prop up the administration's lousy economic record with his "any day now . . . just be patient . . . we'll get those elusive jobs, you just wait" back in 2002 . . . then again in 2003 . . . and so on until the only place for the job market to GO was up.

2. He's become a complete political hack and has sold this country
into eternal penury.

He blessed the massive tax cuts.

He softpedals the massive and increaseing debt.

He is 'for' private accounts' but only 'if they don't cost too much'

He is a perfect lapdog for the junta. And is smarmy wife is a great lapdog 'journalist' for the junta.

I'm sure they get to go to all the "A"List Parties. :eyes:

3. The best that can be said of Alan Greenspan is that he is a confidence man
The man is a partisan liar for the GOP.

4. Greenspan in the love child of Warren Christpher and --
-- Walter Matthau.

He seems to be acting like somebody who benefits significantly from Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy and not at all like somebody acting in the public interest.
