Bush's suicide pact with America
After listening to someone named Tanner on NPR today, I realized that Bush's social security fix is nothing but a suicide pact. If you love your children and you want to "leave them something", you'll die before your money is gone on medical care or nursing homes so that they can inherit whatever's left after medical bills and (I assume) taxes. And there's only one way to be sure of dying quickly enough to avoid going through whatever nest egg you manage to accumulate in spite of escalating stockbroker fees, stockmarket losses, and crooks running off to Brazil with your money. People will have to commit suicide.

Alternatively, your children could decide they'd rather have an inheritance than a parent... Hmmm. (Note to myself: Visit the kids soon and hug them.)

2. All we need to do is raise the cap from $90K to $140K and go singlepayer
health coverage. Corporate globalizers are forcing this on us no matter who is President. Bush doesn't get it, yet. He will when he has no legacy but a bad rep for eight years of trouble.

6. I have some doubts that Bush will ever "get it."
I think he's too self absorbed to notice anything or anyone else.

8. Since they're all faux-Christians, maybe a Damascus Road moment
it can happen, it can happen, it can happen, it can happen....I want to remain an optimist but this is getting depressing by the minute.

3. They seem to be of two minds
The religious hysterics among them don't think there's a future at all, that they're about to get raptured, so it doesn't matter what the thieves, warmongers and polluters do to the rest of us.

The theives, warmongers and polluters think there's enough time left for them to grab it all and enjoy their ill gotten gains.

It's a pretty depressing combination and it really does result in a tacit admission that the only thing a person over 50 should do is commit suicide. There's no hope for anything better while they're in charge.

5. I am well over 50
But guite glad to be alive and working and writing but I am simultaneously very unhappy to have lived into these times. However as a historian I can watch with some detachment the spectacle of the American collapse since with these Bushbots nothing will end well and they won't enjoy their ill-gotten gains all that long if the society goes down. Also we have no kids. I always suspected anyway at some point that children would become hostage to cruel tyrants like Bush.
