Allentown Morning Call

They don't command West Wing press podium or see their names in The New York Times on a daily basis. But Ken Lisaius, Jeanie Mamo and Scott Stanzel are important information gatekeepers in the White House.

The trio speaks for the Bush administration via the Media Affairs Office, where most regional reporters in Washington go for information about presidential initiatives, appointments and travel plans.

<snip>
Structurally, the media affairs office doesn't report to chief White House spokesman Ari Fleischer but to Karen Hughes, whose title is counselor to the president.

Also from the Regional Reporters Association website - #1 on their Top 10 Things to DO for reporters new to DC?

Media Affairs
The Media Affairs Office manages requests from local and regional media outlets including: local television stations, newspapers, specialty media, and radio.

And here is the listing of WHO is WHO in the pecking order:

Bartlett is currently Deputy Assistant to the President and principal deputy to Mrs. Hughes, who as part of her role as Counselor oversees the White House offices of Communications, Press Secretary, Media Affairs and Speechwriting.

5. That's why I was trying to find guidelines or a policy manual or
something. It's the government, they can't operate a door knob without 65 page instruction booklet along with the mandatory "this procedure will take approximately..." disclaimers.

10. But you forget, Bush Co has little to zero respect for the Law...
...and "normal procedures."

They may have done this with just a wink.:evilfrown:

4. From E&P:
But he said he did not know at the time that Guckert had been using a false name and did not know if Scott McClellan, now press secretary but then Fleischer's aide, had known then either. "It came as a surprise to me, because I always knew him as Jeff Gannon," he said. Fleischer said he did not know of any other White House reporters using aliases.

He said he did not know the method the White House Press Office used to keep records of those, like Guckert, who received daily press passes. White House Press Office officials did not respond to several requests today for such information.

6. They don't have a website, I was hoping to find a download
application for a day pass like the one I found at state dept

http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/c8306.htm

There's a pdf application, several pages long, but I can't get my reader to decode the font used. I was curious to see what info they asked for. But if he filled something out, seems like a FOIA request would cover it - not that it does even our congresscritters any good to file them anymore....
