About the 'little folk'
I almost laughed when letter writer Karen Waight referred to Democratic voters as the "little folk" in her angry denunciation of state Rep. Michael Diven for switching to the Republican Party ("We Are Democrats," Feb. 10). The last time I heard working people referred to in that condescending way, it was by Leona Helmsley, the hotel magnate, who said taxes are for the "little people." Ms. Waight perfectly captures the gulf that grows wider every day between the modern Democratic Party and the "little folk." It is the Democratic Party today that is the party of the limousine liberals, Hollywood leftists and college professors.
The "little folk" see their moral values trashed by the Democratic Party. They see their Boy Scout troops being denounced by Democrats for keeping out gay predators. They see Democratic politicians and protesters giving encouragement to America's enemies who are trying to kill their sons and daughters in combat.
The little folk have had it with the crushing taxes that the Democrats always impose on them to fund yet another government "solution." The little folk see the Democrats demanding full constitutional rights for foreign terrorists but the death penalty for innocent babies. The little folk don't want the Democrats promoting disease-ridden sexual "alternatives" to their children at school.
The little folk see the Democrats attempting to disarm them so only criminals have guns. The little folk see the Democrats suing their doctors and their employers out of business, as they complain about health care and jobs. The little folk see the Democrats returning to their racist, Dixiecrat roots by insulting any black leader who has the audacity to be smarter, better educated and better dressed than they are.http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05049/459181.stmThe writer is the chairman of the Republican Committee in a local town.
