Now do you think CBS will go for some good old-fashioned revenge? Is this why the "CBS three" have not quit?

WHY Gannon wanted to be called by an alias rather than a real name?

So weird that question wasn't asked.

The nickname "Leslie" comes from a joke that Al Franken made at the 1994 White House Correspondent's Dinner:

10. So let's recap the Gannon/Guckert saga:
1. Asked a very pointed and loaded question to Bush in a press conference.

2. Started to raise the suspicions that he wasn't a real reporter.

3. Blog community starts to investigate the Gannon and Talon News connection to GOPUSA.com.

4. Jeff Gannon is a pseudonym, the real name is Jim Guckert

5. Homosexual prostitution is found to be part of Guckert's portfolio.

6. He is found to have been a manufactured shill for the White House, and got security clearance he shouldn't have had.

7. The GOPUSA.com website is owned by Bobby Eberle, who owns Talon News, and Millions Of Americans. These are on the same IP address block, also owned by Eberle.

8. Guckert is found to have been in the White House before the creation of Talon News. This means that he was in the works for a while.

9. Guckert is found in a press clip with what appears to be a hard pass for the White House. He got one with no credentials when seasoned reporters didn't receive one.

10. Guckert was informed of the Shock and Awe campaign four hours before it was released to the press by Bush.

Did I forget anything, mess up anything?

Look, I'll even snip it for you.

OLBERMANN: And you just brought it up so she clarify this. This whole question that has just been raised about whether or not Guckert had a hard pass or a daily pass. He apparently had nothing but daily passes. And what people thought might have been a hard pass was his own he lanyard, his own thing around his neck that‘s really had a plastic card that said Talon News. That‘s what we‘ve been able to see from video.

HUTCHESON: Yes. That‘s certainly my belief.

OLBERMANN: OK. Ron Hutcheson of Knight Ridder, president of the White House Correspondents Association, great thanks for an inside view of what‘s going on there. Thank you, sir.

HUTCHESON: Thank you.

60. This HAS to be a portrait
Unless the Talon News logo was upside down on the pass, that is a portrait. The general outline should say that to any reasonable person. Look carefully at the position of the lanyard hole in the pass. And if you step back about 2-3 feet from the monitor on your computer, you can see what looks like a suit and tie. This effect is real, and can be backed up by some rigorous mathematical proofs. For reference, here is the Talon News logo:

To my eye, this is NOT the Talon News logo on the pass. Anybody else see what I am talking about?

13. I can think of two things:
1) DoYouEverWonder came up with a kicker thread showing that TalonNews is connected, I believe through Eberle, to the lawfirm that had one lawyer working on the Bush campaign and another on the Kerry campaign.

2) And Guckert sealed his fate (as well and Wolfie and Kurtz') by getting on the record early in the scandal.

15. There might be this.......
"Jeff Gannon" and Karl Rove -- one degree of separation

Who is the conservative pseudo-journalist who calls himself "Jeff Gannon" and has a hard-to-get White House press pass, so he can toss softball questions at President Bush and rewrite press releases for a right-wing outlet called Talon News?

We wish we knew. We're on the trail, though. Here's a few more interesting things about Gannon, whose unlikely West Wing access is shedding new light on the unseemly White House propaganda machine.

One thing is that there's an excellent chance he's a native Pennsylvanian (wouldn't you just know it?). His "bio" on the Talon News site states "Jeff is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University System and holds a Bachelor of Science in Education." The vast majority of students who attend Penn State, either at State College or its many satellite campuses, tend to be in-state residents.

More interesting is that he and Karl Rove seem to share a mentor -- a largely under-the-radar wingnut named Morton Blackwell. It seems that "Jeff" also is a graduate of the the Leadership Institute Broadcast School of Journalism -- a conservative propagandist training school that was founded and is run by Blackwell and that operates on an $8 million annual budget which comes from God knows where.

The cabals that own the mass marketing corporate media are the ones mostly helping to call in the shots to the White House. It comes to me no surprise this guy got the pass. The White House works for the Corporations not visa-a-versa. The White House may have the final say, but they are not the initiators of anything. Those people do not have original thoughts; they are all just "Yes" men.

When I get in my car and drive down the road, my wheels don't drive my engine, the engine pushes the wheels to roll. Think about who you might be carrying battle or issue with, not who you want to be doing it with.

To short circuit the connection we need to rise up and make congress look into it, otherwise it will only get all polished over in the end.

ROVE CONNECTED TO GOP ACTIVIST WHO DISTRIBUTED "BAND AIDS"

Blackwell Trained Karl Rove. Morton Blackwell, a former national executive director of the College Republicans, trained a teen-aged Karl Rove as a field organizer, and taught him "people in politics should pay less attention to consultants, television advertising, polls, and 'message,' and more attention to the old-fashioned side of the business: registering voters, organizing volunteers, making face-to-face contact during the last days of a campaign, and getting people to the polls on Election Day."

Gannon/Guckert didn't attend Penn State.

West Chester State is part of the "Pennsyvlania State System of Higher Education" but it ain't Penn State.

West Chester is located in SE PA, close to the Delaware border; many of its students are from eastern PA, or NJ or DE.

23. You did leave out one important thing
The bit about being given access to classified CIA information on the identity of covert operative Plame who, after the outing, would likely not be able to continue her various operations involving protecting us from weapons of mass destruction. This access is evidenced in his interview with Ambassador Wilson, where he brought up this information before even the Washington Post, New York Times, or any networks had it.

Not that it's a big deal, of course, since he's a conservative, and everything they do seems to be ok, even when it's making the USA more vulnerable to attack.

Edited on Fri Feb-18-05 05:26 PM by troubleinwinter
Gannon had a weekly one-hour radio show on RightTalk radio, at 3:00 ET, Thursdays. Now he is suddenly "on hiatus", and his show time is being filled in by "Best of RightTalk... host TBD(to be determined)".

I wonder what a one hour a week of crap radio show pays.

Talon had to make some special arrangements to give Gannon some "pay" purely in order to make him a paid, "legitimate" reporter to get the Daily Pass under Talon's name.

So.... now he does not write for Talon. His radio show is gone. His 'Conservative Guy' website where he offers to give speeches to your organization is dead.

Nobody is likely in the DC are to be hiring his services as an "escort" (hahahaha), out of concern for being spotted with him.

Doubtful that any school districts will be hiring him to be a teacher any time soon.

So where is this guy now getting an income? If GOPUSA/Talon is paying him, it would look like hush-money, since he is apparently not performing his work duties anymore.

Truth is, I don't know, either. It was a phrase "Jeff Gannon" referred to (seemed like with pride) on one of his escort websites. I was trying to be humorous on my post. that maybe Eberle paid someone to cook up the documents and give them to the moron - whose name I can't recall - who Rather had complete confidence in? All to discredit "liberal" CBS and to squash any hopes the Democrats had of revealing Dubya's pathetic National Guard service. It's a theory.

48. I've got a question
maybe someone here can help me with this. "Gannon" (since he still wants to be called that) said in his interview with Anderson Cooper that when he interviewed Ambassador Wilson and mentioned the memo, he had said that he was referring to it because it was mentioned in the Wall Street Journal a week prior. So, what I'm curious about (and can't find all the information for) is when this supposed article was published. Since I don't read the WSJ, nor do I have an online subscription to their site, is when this article was published. I can't say whether it happened or not, because I don't have any of the info on it, but if anybody knows where I could possibly find it, I'd appreciate it. :-)
thanks

Memo May Aid Leak Probe

Document Details Intelligence Meeting On Iraq-Niger Reports

By DAVID S. CLOUD
Staff Reporter of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL

WASHINGTON -- An internal government memo addresses some of the mysteries at the center of the White House leak investigation and could help investigators in the search for who disclosed the identity of a Central Intelligence Agency operative, according to two people familiar with the memo.

The memo, prepared by U.S. intelligence personnel, details a meeting in early 2002 where CIA officer Valerie Plame and other intelligence officials gathered to brainstorm about how to verify reports that Iraq had sought uranium yellowcake from Niger.

Ms. Plame, a member of the agency's clandestine service working on Iraqi weapons issues, suggested at the meeting that her husband, Africa expert and former U.S. diplomat Joseph Wilson, could be sent to Niger to investigate the reports, according to current and former government officials familiar with the meeting at the CIA's Virginia headquarters. Soon after, midlevel CIA officials decided to send him, say intelligence officials.

Classified memos, like the one describing Ms. Plame's role, have limited circulation and investigators are likely to question all those known to have received it. Intelligence officials haven't denied Ms. Plame was involved in the decision to send Mr. Wilson, but they have said she was not "responsible" for the decision.

I found this link from Justin Raimondo's article at www.antiwar.com

Sex, Lies, and Jeff Gannon - The unmaking of a media whore by Justin Raimondo

What I wrote last winter about the Plame case applies equally to l'affaire Gannon:

"This case is about much more than the outing of a CIA agent: It's about a cabal of ruthless liars who stopped at nothing – not even treason – to achieve their goals, and kept lying (and committing forgery) even after they were caught. It's about a bogus war fought on account of faked 'evidence.' It's about the hijacking of American foreign policy on behalf of interests that are neither American nor morally defensible."

61. If they were smart....
They'd start reporting the REAL news. However, I think they have been cowed as witness by the CBS exec meeting with the WH. I suspected a Rove setup from day one (a typical MO) when the bloggers first broke the story that the documents were a fake. The WH needed a tool to deflect the story, and it worked. The memo became the story, not Bush's AWOL and subsequent cover up and the sanitizing of his history.
What is not surprising is that the press is sitting around with 4 aces and not looking at them, let alone playing their cards.
